ikindalikelemons Ballot for 2022 Week 7

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 11, 2022, 8:05 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes Had them at 1 last week, and the dismantling of Sparty did nothing to change that
Georgia Bulldogs Back on track, even if it took a little while. Thanks for the palate cleanser, Auburn.
Alabama Crimson Tide There is something in the water at Texas A&M. Spooky.
Tennessee Volunteers Deserved at this point. Bama is a true test though. Gotta get the monkey off your back.
Clemson Tigers Solid, solid team.
Michigan Wolverines Once they got rolling, they dispatched IU pretty quick.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Escaped by a thin margin, but still looking like the class of the Big 12 with TCU.
USC Trojans USC and UCLA are 8A and 8B for me right now. USC has looked stronger for longer this season, so they get the slight nudge, but UCLA is lurking and beating good teams.
UCLA Bruins USC and UCLA are 8A and 8B for me right now. USC has looked stronger for longer this season, so they get the slight nudge, but UCLA is lurking and beating good teams.
Ole Miss Rebels Down 13-3 to Vandy, they turned it around quickly. Not worried about them yet, but their gauntlet begins soon.
Penn State Nittany Lions Man am I excited to see how Penn State stacks up against Michigan this week. I've held them in a stall in the 8-12 range for awhile because I don't yet fully trust Clifford or Franklin, but they would easily vault up the ballot with a win this week.
TCU Horned Frogs A gutsy, impressive win at Kansas. TCU has everything they want right in front of them, and to me one of the 4 best and most trustworthy QBs in the Big 12 (Duggan, Jalon Daniels, Ewers, and Sanders).
Oregon Ducks Oregon has rattled off an impressive string of wins since the Georgia dud in Week 1. Many of their biggest tests still lie ahead.
Mississippi State Bulldogs All Mississippi State does is walk up to your favorite team and smack them in the face. They'll be a tough out and a dark horse the rest of the season. Games remain against Bama, Ole Miss, and Georgia, though there's no reason to think MSU can't hang with and beat any of them on any given day.
Syracuse Orange Moving up as a product of an idle week, we're about to see what the Orange are made of. A home date with NC State this week awaits, but a road game in Death Valley looms large before a stretch including an improving Notre Dame and Wake Forest.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Wake is probable a top-10 ranked team right now if not for that close loss to Clemson. There's no reason they can't still make a push up the rankings and position themselves for a top-tier bowl game.
James Madison Dukes What a start for JMU in FBS. I've had them ranked for three weeks, but it's nice to see the AP give them some love.
Kansas Jayhawks It's hard to knock the Jayhawks much for the loss to TCU. TCU just railroaded Oklahoma and has generally looked like a buzzsaw, and even with Jalon Daniels out most of the game, Mr. Bean came in and still nearly managed to lead Kansas to a home win with GameDay in town. Things are still looking up, even with Bean under center.
Kansas State Wildcats The team in Manhattan still looks mighty solid, but they sit just under Kansas because Kansas has a MUCH better loss than K-State dropping one to Tulane.
NC State Wolfpack On paper, with only a loss to Clemson, NC State should be higher. But these are my rankings and I can't ignore the ECU game and needing a Florida State collapse to win this week. I don't know how long Devin Leary is going to be out, but it changes the outlook of the game in Syracuse this week heavily.
Illinois Fighting Illini Their second week in my poll and first in the AP since 2011(?), Illinois out-Iowa'd Iowa and remained in the driver's seat in the Big Ten West. Still leading the nation in PPG Allowed, Illinois looks poised to break out, especially if Tommy DeVito gets back quickly.
Cincinnati Bearcats Welcome back, Bearcats. Cincinnati seems to have finally settled into a post-Ridder Era identity, and news flash: they're still pretty good. Luke Fickell isn't going to let this team slip too far.
North Carolina Tar Heels I have been SO hesitant to rank UNC because I didn't trust their defense, but there's two reasons I finally did. 1: Their offense is very good and can keep them in a lot of games regardless. 2: Their only current loss is to an improving Notre Dame team that I might have ranked 26 this week if I could. They could nearly be back.
Texas Longhorns Texas, based off of record alone, probably shouldn't be here. It feels early to be ranking 2-loss teams. The issue is that they looked REAL good with Quinn Ewers back. I know OU is in free fall, but it is TOUGH to blank a rival as bad as they did. With a healthy Ewers, this team might have held on against Bama and TTU. We can't rewrite the past and take Texas's two losses out, but if I'm looking at that team play football in their current makeup, they are a ranked-level team.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 6-0. I can't justify putting any more flawed P5 teams in here, and I already have Sun Belt conference mate JMU ranked. I think JMU has looked better on the field, but undefeated is undefeated, and it's not like either team's schedule is great. CCU has cut it close a couple times, thus why they're only squeaking in, but they deserve it this week.
