Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Oct. 9, 2022, 12:19 p.m.
Overall Rationale: Out: Kentucky (lost to a meh SCAR team and the win over Florida isn't as great as it was a few weeks ago), Washington, Cinci (I can't justify putting them in the top 25 over any of the other teams on this list after nearly losing at home to an atrocious USF team. They can hop back in with wins @SMU and or @UCF)
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Ohio State Buckeyes | I might be overreacting a bit by rearranging the top 3, but things will work out by the end of the month, since OSU plays vs Iowa and @ Penn State. Iowa will test the offense at least as much as ND did, and Penn State should be the most complete opponent until TTUN. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | This team will get murdered by Tennessee without Bryce Young. Milroe is not a starting caliber SEC quarterback and Bama should have lost this game if A&M's offense/playcalling huffed a little less glue. However, he should be back next week and give them very good chances at winning on the road against Tennessee. |
| Clemson Tigers | Despite looking ugly for a bit against Boston College, I think Clemson's two top wins are much better than Michigan's. The team probably isn't National Championship material (DJ is good, but not elite, and we saw what a good offense can do to their defense a few weeks ago), but I'd put them at #4 pretty comfortably. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Still not sure what to think about Michigan. They're definitely top 10 good, but the jury is still out (at least for another week) as to whether or not they're a serious contender to make the playoffs. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | |
| Tennessee Volunteers | LSU was probably overranked because of their win against a Miss State team that inexplicably underperformed for reasons, but dominating @ LSU is not an easy task regardless. Their game vs Bama seems winnable, but will be a tall task if Bryce Young is back, as he seems to be worth multiple touchdowns in comparison to Milroe. |
| USC Trojans | I'm shocked they're still 6-0. A defense that's this turnover reliant has to stumble eventually, right? |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | |
| UCLA Bruins | Shocked they're also 6-0, but they impressed vs Utah. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | Wtf was that first half against Vanderbilt? They found themselves in the 2nd half and won convincingly, but still. |
| TCU Horned Frogs | Good, albeit slightly lucky (Jalon Daniels going down) win against Kansas, shoots them up quite a bit. |
| Oregon Ducks | |
| Wake Forest Demon Deacons | |
| NC State Wolfpack | |
| Mississippi State Bulldogs | Arkansas is still a solid team, despite some major slips in the past 3 weeks, so beating them convincingly is a great result |
| Kansas State Wildcats | |
| Syracuse Orange | I still think Syracuse is a complete fraud, which is why they are ranked much lower than other unbeaten P5's. |
| Kansas Jayhawks | I'm not punishing Kansas much for losing a 1-score game in which they lost the best player on their team for half the game. It's kind of insane, but they might actually be favored to pick up win #6 on the road vs Oklahoma next week. |
| Utah Utes | Probably too high, but I can't confidently say they are worse than any team ranked lower than them |
| Texas Longhorns | Texas is ranked again after eviscerating Oklahoma. If they stay healthy, I'm curious to see how the committee treats a 2-loss Texas closer to the end of the season since one or both losses are wins with Ewers back. |
| Illinois Fighting Illini | Should be undefeated and is unironically a Big 10 West contender |
| Purdue Boilermakers | I'm ranking Purdue because they have some decent wins and 2 somewhat flukey losses. Purude/Illinois potentially deciding the West is another super wild sounding sentence, but it's true |
| James Madison Dukes | The committee needs to hope they lose a game because having to explain why an undefeated JMU team can't make a NY6 bowl at the end of the season will be very awkward. |
| Minnesota Golden Gophers | Despite not controlling their destiny anymore, I'm still going to stubbornly believe that Minnesota is a good team that is a threat in the West. |
