Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Sept. 11, 2022, 4:56 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Weighted composite of FPI, SP+, and accelerated ELO for this year

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs 31.6, -0.2 from last week, +1 position from last week
Ohio State Buckeyes 28.5, +1.5, +1
Alabama Crimson Tide 28.4, -3.6, -2
Michigan Wolverines 20.7, -0.8, -
Tennessee Volunteers 19.3, +3.4, +4. Last year’s accelerated ELO now entirely eliminated; other teams realizing this boost vs last week are Penn State, Mississippi State, Texas, Kansas State, Marshall, USC, Florida State, Syracuse, and Iowa State. The reverse is true for Cincinnati, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, and Utah.
Clemson Tigers 18.4, -2.2, -1
Arkansas Razorbacks 17.9, +3.2, +3
Penn State Nittany Lions 17.4, +4.0, +10
Mississippi State Bulldogs 17.3, +3.3, +3

Texas Longhorns 16.2, +2.9, +7
BYU Cougars 16.1, +4.1, +8
Kansas State Wildcats 15.2, NR
Ole Miss Rebels 15.2, +1.2, -4
Michigan State Spartans 15.1, +1.1, -3
Oklahoma State Cowboys 14.8, +1.3, -1
Marshall Thundering Herd 13.8, NR
USC Trojans 13.8, NR
Florida State Seminoles 13.4, NR
Syracuse Orange 13.2, NR
Iowa State Cyclones 12.6, NR
Miami Hurricanes 12.2, +0.1, -3
SMU Mustangs 11.4, +0.7, +1
NC State Wolfpack 11.2, NR Honorable Mentions: Minnesota 10.9, TCU 10.9, Utah 10.5, Oregon State 10.5, Texas Tech 10.3, Cincinnati 10.2 7 dropped teams (Baylor, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati) all lost, with the exception of Cincinnati, who dropped due to last year’s results becoming significantly less important in this week’s rankings. This early in the season, the win/loss accelerated ELO portion of my poll severely punishes all losses. Teams like Baylor, Utah, and Pittsburgh have a good chance to re-enter these rankings in the next few weeks, as this bias becomes less pronounced.
