Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Sept. 9, 2019, 12:12 p.m.
Overall Rationale: Fair warning I traveled to Happy Valley for the game this week so didnt see much outside of Friday night and Saturday 12 slots.  Dropping this week: Stanford, Washington  New to the list: USC, Cal.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Clemson Tigers | UP 1Well they played A&M and looked really good from what I've seen and heard.  Definitely a better competitor than Bama so they got up 1. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | DOWN 1Took care of business but Clemson had the better win so they got the bump. |
| LSU Tigers | UP 9LSU has an offense and thats scarry.  Texas moved the ball well on them and that could be cause for concern but in the end they won and thats what matters most. |
| Auburn Tigers | DOWN 1They looked ok against a very respectable Tulane team but deserved the drop after LSU beat a good Texas team and did better against their other opponent. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | DOWN 1I had serious contemplation about moving them up above Auburn after their demolitioning against a G5 favorite but decided against it because of Auburn's win against Oregon.  They are a seriously dangerous team, have yet to miss a beat but we will see when they get into tougher competition. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | DOWN 1They look like a top team but LSU's win moved them up from 12 and shifted a lot of these top teams down.  Here is where I say I fully expect Auburn to finish in the below 15 but until these 4 SEC teams in the top 6 start beating each other up this will be crowded spot. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | DOWN 1Offense still looks good, not real lot to report TBH. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | UP 5They look like last year was an aboration and Michigan comes up in 2 weeks.  I'd be very scarred if I were a Michigan fan. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | DOWN 2Struggled a bit in the first half versus Buffalo (RIP to their Punter and the 3 men with his number painted on their chests in Beaver Stadium) but looked really good in the second half.  Ultimately comes down to Wisconsin being more dominant over their similar level opponents through 2 games and LSU bumping up.  Still my pick for Big 10 Champs. |
| Oregon Ducks | DOWN 1I mean they did well enough against a respectable Nevada team and ranking change involved more what other teams did. Look like the Pac-12's best team right now. |
| Maryland Terrapins | UP 9I legit thought I would be dropping them off my top 25 this week.  Instead, they had a top 5 win of this week and look legitimate above average?  Super interesting to see how they do in conference play. |
| Florida Gators | DOWN 4They did their job beating an FCS opponent with a shutout but other teams were just more impressive. |
| Utah Utes | DOWN 3They might go undefeated winning every game by 4 points.  Honestly don't know what I think of Utah now but I know I expect more from their offense.  Main reason I put them below Florida is I think Miami is still better than BYU but I'm not totally sure of that these days. |
| Washington State Cougars | UP 2They still look real good.  Another impressive performance. |
| Texas Longhorns | UP 2They lost so good they moved up 2 spots!!!!  Honestly the reason they moved up was Boise's poor performance and looking really good out there against my new #3 in the country.  I think they are a top 10 level team this year. |
| Boise State Broncos | DOWN 5They looked a bit lethargic against Marshall.  I think they will rise up a bit and this is a bit of Freshman QB not being able to finish drives type of deal.  Still my definite favorite in the MWC. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | UP 2The classic week 2 bye week has the Irish moving up 2 spots because of other teams actions. |
| Boston College Eagles | UP 4Well Virginia Tech might just be not good but BC came out in week 2 and stomped Richmond which was good enough to move up a few spots. |
| Michigan State Spartans | UP 5Well the offense looked good so maybe its a matter of which offense shows up, the week 1 version that struggled mightily or week 2 that exceled against roughly similar competition.  Either way it was good enough to jump that other team from Michigan. |
| Michigan Wolverines | DOWN 2Michigan struggled mightily against Army, now the service academies are tough to play against and Oklahoma made the CFP after beating Army in overtime last year but its still not a good look (and Army played better in that game last year) |
| Texas A&M Aggies | DOWN 6I mean yes it was Clemson but I think this is A&M lot this year, up and down in the ranking as they hit the difficult teams. |
| UCF Knights | DOWN 1Took care of business and still a top G5 power. |
| California Golden Bears | NEWThey beat Washington in a game that finished way to late for most East Coasters but I have been high on Cal if they found some semblance of offense and maybe they've found just enough of it to compete for a top spot in the Pac-12? |
| Appalachian State Mountaineers | DOWN 1Just chugging along taking care of business. |
| USC Trojans | NEWIs USC a good team? The QB play is promising, Stanford could just be bad.  I still don't trust them. |
