Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Sept. 8, 2019, 11:20 a.m.
Overall Rationale: Still a human ballot while the computer settles down. Aiming at week 5 to start using a hybrid ballot. The computer has stopped circlejerking the XII, probably because Texas and Kansas and WVU all lost. The B1G, by contrast, has seen all three OOC losses hit the same division. This is propping up the East division, and Iowa, who has the only win over any team in the East. In the SEC, the East is looking a little better. The PAC, too, got some valuable wins, including several over teams propped up by the B1G circlejerk.    --------------Model Ranking------------->> [1] Michigan State (47); [2] Penn State (45.4); [3] Michigan (44.9); [4] Iowa (44); [5] Maryland (41.5); [6] Auburn (41.3); [7] Ohio State (40.8); [8] LSU (40.5); [9] Texas Tech (40.41); [10] Wisconsin (40.39); [11] Arizona State (40.38); [12] Clemson (40.31); [13] Mississippi State (40.27); [14] Colorado (39.7); [15] Kansas State (39.3); [16] Utah (39.2); [17] Indiana (38.6); [18] Boston College (38.3); [19] Illinois (37.8); [20] Oklahoma (37.71); [21] Baylor (37.66); [22] USC (37.6); [23] Oklahoma State (37.4); [24] California (37.24); [25] NC State (37.20) <<----------------------------------- Sorry it looks so messy. Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Clemson Tigers | Clemson was thoroughly carried to victory by Travis Etienne and Kellen Mond. (+0 from last week) |
| LSU Tigers | Jeaux Burreaux was ready to geaux. That was more points from both teams than anyone expected. (+0) |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Look out world, Alabama has a kicker. (+0) |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Defense will get you places in the B1G East. (+1) |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Trickling slowly upward toward the inevitable. (+1) |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Pretty sure there's now a giant rectangular hole where once was South Dakota. (+1) |
| Michigan Wolverines | Not so fun when you're the ones Army takes to 2OT at your place, is it? (-3) |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Michigan didn't actually lose, so the Irish fail to capitalize on not playing anyone. (+0) |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | The Nittany Lions struggled early, but still move up for three reasons: First, it's Buffalo; second, they finished strong with a solid win anyway; and third, everyone else I had within 2 spots of them lost. (+2) |
| Wisconsin Badgers | The Badgers still haven't allowed a point this season. (+9) |
| Texas A&M Aggies | Jimbo might want to stick to running the ball. (-2) |
| Boise State Broncos | That game was more exciting than it needed to be. Still, lots of losses above the Broncos, and someone has to fill the space. (+2) |
| UCF Knights | #or2and0hana (+2) |
| Texas Longhorns | They would drop further, but for one thing, it was a one-score loss to the #2 team; and for another, too many teams around them did much much worse. Also, quit playing zone against seam routes. Man up so your young LBs don't have to do four things at once. (-1) |
| Michigan State Spartans | Michigan State has an offense? Here's to shining a light on the B1G East dark horse contender. (It would be Maryland, but Maryland hasn't played a good team yet.) (+6) |
| Washington Huskies | Three reasons they don't fall further. First, it was a massive fluke. Second, the Huskies are being pulled upwards by the power vacuum above. Third, the game was delayed, and didn't finish until nearly 5am ET. (-5) |
| Florida Gators | Wow, a 45-point shutout? Florida is looking gr -- oh. Against one of the worst teams in the Ohio Valley Conference. Never mind. (+1) |
| Utah Utes | You okay there, Utes? NIU's looking decent this year, but probably not MAC West-winningly decent. (-1) |
| Memphis Tigers | Nice to see the Tigers still have offense. (+1) |
| Army West Point | They did it again. They walked into a top-5 team's house, ran the ball down their throats for 60 minutes, went to double overtime and did it some more, and only finally lost because they tried to leave the ground. (+3) |
| Iowa Hawkeyes | I asked for defense and you listened. But considering the team you just shut out spent an entire half trailing UMass, who just lost to one of the worst teams in FCS, that shutout is only good for a (+1) |
| Auburn Tigers | Nothing to see here. Just a single-digit defensive performance. Please ignore odd-year Auburn. (+2) |
| Oregon Ducks | Disemboweling the Wolf Pack is not a socially well-adjusted way to take out your frustrations, Ducks. Now, let's go back over the ways you can express how you feel, without inverting the predator-prey relationship. (+2) |
| USC Trojans | To be honest, Stanford @ USC looked like a much more compelling matchup before last week, when both teams' starting QBs had their seasons ended. (NEW) |
| Stanford Cardinal | And it even looked like a good game. To the point that I was sad I had to go to bed. But I'm kind of glad I turned it off, because that's when Stanford fell to pieces. (-9) Dropped: Cincinnati (from 12) |
