Overall Rationale: The season is still young, but identities are beginning to take shape.

1 Clemson Tigers Solid, if not spectacular performance against a talented and well-coached Texas A&M. Not the most exciting game of the day but that's a testament to Clemson's clean run of play.
2 Alabama Crimson Tide Not much to clean from devouring a cupcake.
3 Ohio State Buckeyes So much for the in-state rivalry.
4 LSU Tigers Joe Burrow's filthy cannon could take him all the way to New York and LSU all the way to the playoff.
5 Georgia Bulldogs Also ate a cupcake.
6 Penn State Nittany Lions Looked slightly more human against a non-Idaho opponent but still the clearest competition to OSU in the B1G East.
7 Oklahoma Sooners South Dakota is a good FCS program, but it's still FCS. Not much to learn here.
8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Week 2 bye.
9 Wisconsin Badgers 110-0 on the season. Jonathan Taylor is a receiver now.
10 Washington State Cougars Generous, perhaps, but this has looked like the most dominant team in the Pac-12 so far.
11 Texas Longhorns Smashing effort against LSU that came up just short.
12 Florida Gators Nice shutout of UT-Martin.
13 Auburn Tigers Offense has some work to do.
14 Utah Utes Best team in the Pac-12 South...for now.
15 Michigan State Spartans Offense finally comes to life.
16 Michigan Wolverines Army is no slouch but there are bigger problems at hand.
17 Texas A&M Aggies Reasonable performance against a juggernaut.
