Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Crap. Tua is good. Crap. Tua is there for two more seasons. Crap... |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Maybe South Carolina was a bit over-rated, but Georgia dominated a ranked team just like they were playing a cupcake. Getting 271 yards against a conference opponent after you lose two incredible running backs to the draft deserves hefty praise and they looked ready for a repeat of last year. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | After playing the Buckeyes this week, Rutgers became an underdog versus Kansas. OSU can make anyone look bad, but beating up on the bottom feeder from two P5 conferences only shows us so much. They get their first real test this week, but as of now they seemed primed for a playoff spot by being slightly better than Wisconsin. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | The Sooners lost a Heisman winning QB and might somehow even be better. I think I even saw a defense - which should scare every other team. OU should keep on steamrolling their schedule until they face the Frogs in late October. |
| Clemson Tigers | As long as Clemson keeps winning, they should be safe to get a playoff spot since Alabama/Georgia will sort themselves out. That keep winning is a big "if" though. The best unit in football (Clemson's D Line) let A&M get 501 yards with 430 in the air. The pass rush was okay but should have been better with the monsters they have out there. A&M is probably better than people realized, but Clemson can't be the favorite to square off with Bama when they have to sweat out games like this. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | Wisconsin suffers from Georgia syndrome: They might be one of the four best teams in the country but are marching towards getting pantsed in their conference championship game so that they miss out on the playoffs. I picked Wisconsin to win the conference preseason, but OSU has looked better than I expected. To be fair though, neither has played good enough competition to fully show their abilities. These next 4 weeks will be a gauntlet for Wisconsin, but if they come out unscathed, they might finally prove their ready to represent the B1G East in the playoff for the first time. |
| Auburn Tigers | |
| Washington Huskies | |
| West Virginia Mountaineers | |
| Stanford Cardinal | |
| UCF Knights | |
| TCU Horned Frogs | |
| LSU Tigers | |
| Virginia Tech Hokies | |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | |
| Mississippi State Bulldogs | |
| Michigan Wolverines | |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | |
| Boise State Broncos | |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | |
| Miami Hurricanes | |
| Houston Cougars | |
| Texas A&M Aggies | It's already becoming clear that those great recruiting classes deserved a great coach to get A&M over the hump. People picked the wrong Texas school to be back. They will likely start the season 2-2, but if they compete against Clemson and Alabama, they can come out of that .500 record looking like a top 20 team. |
| USC Trojans | |
| Kentucky Wildcats | I don't know if Kentucky is the 25th best team in the country, but you can make an argument for them over any other team that could be here. Most importantly, though, I wanted them on my ballot for at least 1 week because they deserve some recognition for finally breaking Florida's streak. Good job Wildcats. Basketball season can wait for once. |
