hokies220 Ballot for 2018 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 10, 2018, 10:33 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins against FCS teams don't count, must have a winning record to be ranked. Top four are who I'd put it right now. I submitted a poll and didn't like so I decided to scrap it and go all in on figuring out a way to access strength of schedule as the most important criteria in my poll. I've got a certain value set that gives points and then I decide tie-breakers. For what it's worth here we go. Wins and SoS are the two biggest factors. I need a way to incorporate losses to FCS teams affecting a teams wins. Also, since I don't count FCS wins this leaves Clemson, LSU, and Auburn out even though I'd probably have all in the top ten of a normal ranking.

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes Leading the pack by almost a complete point, having played two P5 opponents and having huge margins of victories weighs heavily in their favor.
Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors 3-0 vs FBS teams. Colorado State just beat Arkansas which helps as well as Navy beating Memphis.
Duke Blue Devils Much the same as Colorado they're helped by winning a P5 game on the road and having their G5 win also win a game.
Colorado Buffaloes Colorado State winning against P5 helps the SoS aspect
Alabama Crimson Tide Had them #1, but decided that had too much personal bias in it because they're Bama with the new grading system they drop to just outside the playoff.
Oklahoma Sooners Firing on all cylinders. Two big blowout wins.
Penn State Nittany Lions Beat a P5 team on the road by six possessions and App State won their game.
Maryland Terrapins Tied in points with Houston, but I think Texas is better than Arizona. Then again I think my local high school team could beat Arizona right now.
Houston Cougars If Rice had pulled off the upset against Hawaii that would've shaken up the top ten a bit.
California Golden Bears Mainly here because they beat UNC and BYU had beaten Arizona. I need to factor in some way to punish losses to FCS teams in a way that hurts the SoS because I didn't have them ranked after UNC and Arizona shit the bed.
Arizona State Sun Devils Thought I had them too high, but here they are after checking the numbers. Actually were tied with Cincy and..Indiana?
Cincinnati Bearcats Keep being underestimated.
Indiana Hoosiers Winning on the road at FIU then FIU also winning helped as does a P5 win.
Kentucky Wildcats Beating Florida on the road helped a lot.
Stanford Cardinal Good win against USC, and playing pretty solid right now.
Boise State Broncos Smashed another team, even with minimizing any points for MoV Boise stayed highly ranked.
Iowa Hawkeyes Don't have to beat your rival by much as long as you win.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Slightly helped by Michigan winning their game as ND did themselves no favors by struggling with Ball State.
Washington State Cougars Solid showing, but again I need a way to discount wins over bad FBS teams that lose to FCS teams.
Georgia Bulldogs Surprised they're this high with only the one game while LSU, Auburn, and Clemson are not.
Wisconsin Badgers We all know Wisconsin is better than this ranking, but they've played bad teams so far.
West Virginia Mountaineers Beat up a cupcake so they're also here based on just one game of data.
Vanderbilt Commodores Were tied with WVU and Wisconsin, but I think the other two have looked better.
Mississippi State Bulldogs Tied with VT, but KSU is probably better than FSU.
Virginia Tech Hokies Barely stayed ranked by .2
