_TGT7 Ballot for 2023 Week 11

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 5, 2023, 8:56 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Reasons given for Top 25 matchups, teams that move up or down 3 or more spots and for teams I decide to talk about. Feel better about my rankings as the season continues, even if my ranking predictions have sucked Dropped: #17 Air Force: Best win is Wyoming and losing by 20 to one of the worst Army teams in the last few years destroys your resume, some people might keep them ranked but I don’t see a point #23 UCLA: No bad losses but no big wins, and Arizona beating them results in both teams having somewhat similar resumes, where Arizona wins #25 USC: Same issue as UCLA, no bad losses, but no big wins.

Rank Team Reason
Michigan Wolverines
Ohio State Buckeyes
Georgia Bulldogs Missouri gave Georgia a hell of a fight, but ultimately failed to win. Georgia’s defense is hard to beat, and they look to make it to the cfp playoff for the third season in a row
Florida State Seminoles
Washington Huskies
Texas Longhorns
Oregon Ducks
Penn State Nittany Lions
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama just keeps on winning, they keep having an issue with playing down to competition, but they are also playing up to competition. A path to the national championship is very much alive for this team.
Ole Miss Rebels +2
Louisville Cardinals +3, Louisville didn’t do anything special against Virginia Tech, but they looked much better than other teams in the 10-15 range, which allows them to shoot up in my rankings, if they keep it up, they should make the top 10
Utah Utes +3, Utah looked much better this week, with their offense humming along against a Arizona State team that gave Washington and Colorado issues. Their game against Washington should be interesting. I believe it is a very winnable game for Utah, but could also be a loss.
Oregon State Beavers +2
Oklahoma Sooners -4, Oklahoma was handed a cfp birth on a silver platter and now has completely screwed it up and has no chance of getting in, since the team beat Texas, they have looked closer to the Oklahoma of last season. West Virginia and BYU aren’t going to be gimme wins either, so it’s up to Oklahoma to pick the pieces up and perform
LSU Tigers This probably is too high for LSU, but I’ve been trying to be nicer to teams with a strong strength of schedule (all of LSU’s losses are to top 10 teams), and they still have nice wins, and haven’t been blown out except for the FSU game. LSU also has a nice win over Miami. As much as I like LSU though, I wonder if Brian Kelly might become a Jimbo Fisher east situation.
Oklahoma State Cowboys NEW, I didn’t rank Oklahoma State because I didn’t think they were that good, but with wins vs Oklahoma and Kansas, they have proved me wrong. Amazing turnout from the start of the season.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish -6, Clemson is a unlucky team, but it should’ve been a game that Notre Dame won. In my opinion Sam Hartman hasn’t been very good the last few weeks, and I think that limits the potential of this team.
Missouri Tigers Didn’t move Missouri down because they played very well against Georgia until some unfortunate interceptions thrown in the fourth quarter. They proved to be a legitimate team.
Liberty Flames +2
Tulane Green Wave -1, Tulane has got to figure out their offense and defense, nearly losing to a 1-7 East Carolina basically playing for pride is not good.
Kansas Jayhawks -1
Tennessee Volunteers
James Madison Dukes +1
Arizona Wildcats NEW, Arizona has been on my radar all season, but they got themselves another big win, giving themself a top 15 win, and a win over a good UCLA team, I’m interested to see how the team does against Utah
Duke Blue Devils NEW, possibly a surprising choice to enter the top 25, when evaluating Duke’s resume they have no bad losses, and they have nice wins over Clemson and NC State, offense could be better (seems to be a theme this season with unbalanced top 25 teams), but still a great team.
