bretticus33 Ballot for 2023 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes It’s been ugly for tOSU, but that’s two ugly wins against highly ranked opponents now. They jump to #1 for the time being for that.
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia’s lack of quality wins, domination, and Brock Bowers drops them down a spot.
Washington Huskies It was ugly for Washington but they got their first win of the season in which their offense didn’t do anything. UW is past the desert voodoo and still on track.
Florida State Seminoles FSU ended up easing past Duke, but not before their star QB left the game injured again. FSU is good and probably the clear favorite in the ACC now, but not without concerns and faults.
Michigan Wolverines Michigan has looked like the best team of the season with their pure domination so far, but the ease of schedule is what keeps them outside the CFP.
Oklahoma Sooners Oklahoma must have forgotten they still had half of a season to play after beating Texas a couple weeks ago. The Sooners barely held on against UCF and their defense showed more cracks than normal.
Texas Longhorns Texas also struggled in their return to play, and while they were maybe fortunate to beat Houston, they also have concerns about Ewers now.
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama looked like the Bama we’re used to in that 2nd half against Tennessee, but how much of that was Bama dominating and how much was Tennessee collapsing?
Oregon Ducks Make no mistake, WSU is a tough opponent and that’s still a good win for Oregon. Things won’t get easier in Utah.
Penn State Nittany Lions Ooof. That was an awful offensive showing. Elite level defense though.
Oregon State Beavers Oregon State was off but is creeping ever so closer to the Top 10.
Utah Utes Utah proved to be the Trojans’ boogeyman again, this time winning in LA with a backup QB. If Rising ever does return, this is a potential top 5 team.
Ole Miss Rebels Auburn is Ole Miss’ boogeyman (historically speaking) so while it may not look as impressive, getting past Auburn with a W is big for Ole Miss.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Off week for Notre Dame, and against Pitt it could be another one.
LSU Tigers LSU hates America
Missouri Tigers Mizzou continues their run as the most surprising team in the P5 this season, and if not for that loss to LSU they would easily be in the top 10, pushing top 5.
Air Force Falcons Don’t underestimate how often these service academy battles come down to the wire. Beating Navy by 11, even if they’re not good, is not an easy 11 point win for a fellow option team.
Louisville Cardinals Louisville was on a bye but might get a vulnerable Duke now
James Madison Dukes Get JMU in a bowl please.
North Carolina Tar Heels It felt like it was coming for UNC. There were still cracks in the defense and they showed. But Drake Maye is making a case to be the #1 overall pick in April/May
UCLA Bruins UCLA wasn’t going to let Stanford come back on them with a dominating 35 point win. Next up: Colorado who would let Stanford come back on them.
Duke Blue Devils The main concern with Duke is their QB. If Leonard plays, Duke is a top 15 team. If he doesn’t they’re not a top 25 team.
Tulane Green Wave It wasn’t pretty, but Tulane ended up beating UNT after blowing a big lead. Pratt has won 9 starts in a row now.
Tennessee Volunteers First half Tennessee is great. Second half Tennessee is not.
USC Trojans I’ll be honest, I fully intended to drop USC out entirely. The problem is I couldn’t find any team I felt comfortable putting ahead of USC that isn’t already in the top 25. Lose to Cal and that makes it extremely easy.
