Ballot Type: Hybrid
Submitted: Jan. 10, 2023, 8:32 a.m.
Overall Rationale: Points are awarded based on the outcome of each game and are awarded as follows: 3 points per win, 1 point for an OT loss, 1 extra point for covering the spread, and 1 extra point for a ranked win with another point available for a top 10 win. Points accumulate over the season and teams will be ranked by most points to fewest. Poll rankings are determined by total votes between the AP, Coaches, and r/CFB polls and I am using the total votes received across all three polls as a tie-breaker. Since this is the final poll and no new r/CFB polls have been released since the end of CCG weekend, I will be doing the final rankings based on total points for the season and then my own opinions.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | Total season points: 66. A missed extra point from having scored the same number of points in the natty. |
| TCU Horned Frogs | 63: A great season for the Horned Frogs, one that will long be remembered in Ft. Worth. Despite what naysayers (ahem, Alabama fans, mostly) may say, TCU absolutely deserved to be in the playoff and in this game. They just ran into a much, much better team. |
| Tulane Green Wave | 56: Even without the points system, I would give serious thought to putting Tulane here anyway. Not even joking. Tulane's good. |
| Michigan Wolverines | 55: Would Michigan have matched up better against Georgia than TCU? Who knows, probably. But looking at that game I don't think anyone was matching Georgia in the natty. An undefeated regular season, first victory over OSU in the Shoe in over a decade, back-to-back B1G titles and playoff appearances is nothing to be ashamed of though. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | 55: If only they hadn't been Cock Blocked. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | 51: Maybe if you didn't lose 2 games you could have been in the playoff. |
| Washington Huskies | 50: I'll admit, I haven't paid a ton of attention to the Huskies this year, but from all accounts Penix is that dude and it was a tremendous season in Seattle, so good job. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | 49: Penn State's only 2 losses were to the B1G's 2 playoff teams so I'd say they're pretty good. |
| Troy Trojans | 49: TOP 10 TROY ALERT. TOP 10 TROY ALERT. Realistically I'd have them somewhere in the teens but the points are how we're doing this so here they are. |
| Kansas State Wildcats | 49: Sure you got beat by Bama, but you'll always get to fly that Big XII championship flag. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | 48: Yes, they should be much higher. If I had full control, I'd honestly put them at 2. But the points are what they are. |
| Clemson Tigers | 48: Would probably have them lower personally, but again, points. |
| Oregon State Beavers | 47: Yep, I have the Beavers over the Trojans. Why? Because I like teams who demoralize Florida and that's what the Beavs did. |
| USC Trojans | 47: You were on the verge of greatness, you were this close. |
| Ohio Bobcats | 44: Ohio would not be ranked this high without the points. |
| Oregon Ducks | 43: A good first season for Dan Lanning in Eugene, but missed some opportunities to be better. |
| LSU Tigers | 43: LSU provided the second-worst beat down of the bowl season and made the SECCG in Brian Kelly's first year. Things are looking up for the Tigers. |
| UTSA Roadrunners | 43: Another good season for the Road Runners, but the loss to Troy at the end certainly stings. |
| Utah Utes | 42: PAC-12 champs and ruining USC's season twice has to feel pretty good. |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | 42: This is one of the teams I really regret doing the points system for. UNC should not be ranked. I'd much rather have Florida State here. |
| Mississippi State Bulldogs | 41: RIP Mike Leach. |
| Duke Blue Devils | 41: Is Duke good? I guess so. |
| Air Force Falcons | 41: Off we go, into the wild blue yonder. |
| South Alabama Jaguars | 41: Another team that is only ranked thanks to points. I'd much rather have Fresno State here. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | 40: Quite the turn around by Marcus Freeman this season. |
