Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Continue to look very good even without a fully healthy roster. Haven’t really had a scare against a lower-tier team. Wish the coaches would’ve fought. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Two scares in back-to-back weeks. Can’t look shaky to start against Kent State and then almost lose to Mizzou and stay #1. God bless Mizzou’s thicker for giving us all some hope, though. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Handled a good Arkansas team. If Bryce Young’s shoulder injury is anything more than minor, it’s going to cause problems. Need to watch that |
| Michigan Wolverines | Looked pretty good against a very stout Iowa defense. A little concerned that Michigan’s defense allowed Iowa’s offense to score any points at all, but a win is a win. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | Excellent win over Baylor. I may have to begrudgingly admit that Spencer Sanders is good. I’ll try to put that off, though. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | Kinda win their bye week tbh |
| USC Trojans | I really do wonder about that defense. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Not the world’s best showing against Northwestern, but a win is a win. Need to look better to keep getting the benefit of the doubt. Already looking ahead to Michigan?? |
| Utah Utes | Good game from Rising and the defense. This is the Utah we expected to see this year, minus Kuithe’s injury. Wonder if that causes them to slip up at some point this year. |
| Clemson Tigers | I still have questions about the offense but the fact that the team beat Wake playing Wake’s game and then beat NC State playing NC State’s game is impressive. |
| Oregon Ducks | Beat a Stanford team that they should’ve beaten. Hesitant to get too excited about a Bo Nix team, but it is looking more and more like the Georgia game was an aberration. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | Played a great game against Kentucky and had an even better postgame celebration in the booth. They needed a quality win like this on their resume. Defense is much better than I thought it would be going in to the season. |
| Kansas Jayhawks | I am many things. A coward isn’t one of them. And, honestly, how many teams can claim a better resume? Sure, they needed the help of Iowa State’s freshman kicker, but they *won*. And as I’ve said many times in this ballot, a win is a win. Also, Jalon Daniels has to be in the Heisman conversation at this point, no?? I know this wasn’t a very good game for him by any means, but he is *scary* when things are clicking. |
| Syracuse Orange | Felt genuinely bad for Wagner |
| UCLA Bruins | I thought they’d get trounced by Washington. They made me look very dumb. I don’t understand this team but they deserve to be somewhere around here. I am willing to let their ranking work itself out |
| TCU Horned Frogs | I would not like to talk about TCU’s game. Can’t even remember who they played. (I am an OU fan…) |
| Kentucky Wildcats | Tough loss that really could’ve easily gone the other way (what was that fumble, Levis???). This team is far from dead. |
| LSU Tigers | I have a lot of questions. First off, what is this team??? They aren’t playing like I thought they would under BK (didn’t think they’d look as meh at times on offense with Daniels, either) but they keep winning. Really I ranked them because I thought Mississippi State deserved to be ranked and LSU has the h2h win. But Auburn!? You’re going to do that against AUBURN??? Hideously ugly win that is still a win. |
| Mississippi State Bulldogs | Great performance against A&M. Surprised by how Leach has adapted his game plan (and have been all season, tbh). This is Leach year, as I’ve been saying. They’re going to knock off a big dog and lose to two teams they should’ve smoked. |
| Cincinnati Bearcats | Not the world’s most convincing win but Tulsa May just be a pretty good team this year. |
| Coastal Carolina Chanticleers | They keep winning! How long does Chadwell stick around with all of these openings? |
| James Madison Dukes | Was *super* close to ranking them last week. They deserve it. |
| Washington Huskies | Just when I was getting excited about this team, they get pretty well handled by UCLA. Sigh. |
| Kansas State Wildcats | I really do expect Adrian Martinez to start looking like himself again (that is, worse) soon, but he hasn’t yet. |
| Illinois Fighting Illini | Bert’s got these boys playin Bert ball! Even better than Wisconsin, apparently! Just how good is Chase Brown???? |
