JBonkies Ballot for 2022 Week 6

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 2, 2022, 12:15 p.m.

Overall Rationale: 1-16 undefeated teams ranked. 17-25 best 1 loss teams from each power five conference. Minnesota #26, Washington #27, Illinois #28.

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes Outside of the Notre Dame game, Ohio State has dominated. Notre Dame is a very talented team that is still trying to find their identity. Ohio State has been crushing their opponents and I don't see a real challenge for them until Penn State.
Alabama Crimson Tide The tide is still here. They cruise against Arkansas and will get A&M next week. There is a good chance they finish this year 12-0.
Georgia Bulldogs I said I kind of grouped 4-7 together, and that is true for 1-3 as well. It was hard not putting Georgia at 1 but these past two weeks have been a little worrisome. They are a top tier team still and I could see any argument for them to be 1 through 3.
USC Trojans Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams are good. They have a good win against Oregon State and I think they are going to have a lot of success this year. Looking forward to the Utah and UCLA games for USC.
Michigan Wolverines This was a very impressive win, and it looks like Maryland is a pretty good team.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State scared me a little with how they looked against Northwestern. They won the game and will get a week off before heading to the big house.
Clemson Tigers Two very impressive wins. I value the Penn State win at Auburn slightly more right now even if they aren't that good, but this is where I have drawn a virtual line. I think USC, Michigan, Penn State, and Clemson could be in any order.
Tennessee Volunteers Hendon Hooker makes this team go. I moved Michigan and Clemson above them because winning at Kinnick is hard (Trust me), and Clemson has two very good wins now to Tennessee's one.
TCU Horned Frogs TCU is good. Maybe Oklahoma isn't that good now that they have two losses but they are a talented team none the less. TCU never let up and destroyed them from kick off to the final whistle.
Oklahoma State Cowboys I think Oklahoma State and Mississippi are neck and neck. Mississippi lost their QB from last year so I give the edge to Oklahoma State. Nice win this week against a good Baylor team that helps them as well. This is kind of a 10a and 10b situation for me.
Ole Miss Rebels I am probably too low on Mississippi at 11, but this is a good football team. I am not a huge believer in Jaxson Dart and I want to know how they handle pressure situations. They were able to hold of Kentucky this week, but couldn't score a much needed touchdown against Tulsa last week. Might have been a look ahead spot for them but I am going to wait a little until moving them into the top 10. There is a good chance they start 7-0 before traveling to Death Valley.
UCLA Bruins That South Alabama game was brutal, but they bounced back with a huge win over Colorado, and a great win over #27 Washington. UCLA is much better than I expected and will be interested to see how they do with Utah coming to town next week.
Kansas Jayhawks Rock Chalk! Kansas is 5-0! I don't know how many of the teams above them Kansas could beat but they are not a bad team by any stretch. Close game with Iowa State, who might be better than I thought.
Syracuse Orange Syracuse was lucky Purdue forgot how to be normal and started taking outrageously bad penalties. The Virginia game did them no favors either. Same thing I said about Coastal applies here, it is hard to go 5-0.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers This is probably the worst 5-0 team right now. But they are still 5-0. Have had some close calls this year but have been able to still win the game. It's hard to start 5-0, just ask Minnesota :(.
James Madison Dukes First year as an FBS team and they are still undefeated. Looked very impressive against North Texas and has shown they can handle adversity in their 28-3 comeback. They have less losses than everyone above them besides Tennessee. I don't have them as high because I think Tennessee has had better wins.
Utah Utes Week 1 is hard, just look at Oregon. Utah had to travel across the country and play in the swamp. Still played Florida close and I believe this is the best 1 loss team in the country right now. Oregon State is a good team and they dismantled them.
Kentucky Wildcats I haven't been as high on Kentucky as others have been, but they did not look bad against Mississippi. I think it is a toss up between Kentucky and Mississippi State right now but give the edge to Kentucky with their win at the swamp.
Mississippi State Bulldogs I have no idea how they lost to LSU. They outplayed them for 3 quarters and let their guard down in the 4th. It is never easy to play at LSU, so I am not going to dock them too much for that loss.
NC State Wolfpack I have been disrespecting NC State so far this year. They lost a hard fought game to Clemson and are definitely one of the best 1 loss teams in the country right now.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Heartbreaker against Clemson, did enough to win that game. Would be higher but I think 17-20 just barely edges them out.
Oregon Ducks Georgia is very good, and losing to them is nothing to be upset about. However, the loss was by 46 and Georgia hasn't looked as dominant these past two weeks now.
Kansas State Wildcats Lost to Tulane in a look ahead spot with Oklahoma coming the next week. Kansas State has looked pretty good this year outside of that game.
Maryland Terrapins Only loss is at #5 Michigan, and the team has looked pretty good this year.
Florida State Seminoles I would put the loss to Wake Forest being better than Minnesotas loss to Purdue, and Illinois loss to Indiana. Minnesota and Washington have a common opponent who Minnesota performed better against, so they have the slight edge over Washington.
