ShogunAshoka Ballot for 2022 Week 4

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 19, 2022, 6:10 p.m.

Overall Rationale: So the primary focus of my poll is that only what happens on the field this season matters. Teams do not earn points for perceived talent, historical success, etc. I look at who teams have beaten on the field this year, and how good those wins are in turn. There will be a bias, and you probably won't agree with me on many, especially early in the season where we are now. It is much more difficult right now as many teams have wins over others who's only win is often an FCS team. Undefeated certainly gets looked at, but it is not the be-all-end-all. A 2-1 team might have a win over someone better than all three opponents of a given 3-0 team. This will earn them a ranking above said 3-0 team for my poll.(For example, LSU's win over MSST, who beat Arizona themselves I would consider a better win than any of Clemson's, who has beaten GT, LA Tech, and Furman.) This is also why I wait before putting out my first poll. I do not do preseason as A) it rewards teams for not having played any games and B) to avoid early poll bias. As the year moves on I will more adjust for how I think a team is vs another, but as we are only three weeks into the year, these initial polls will inevitably be rather funky to people, and irritate others. Things will look less strange as the year goes on and we enter conference play and gain a larger sample size. To further avoid poll inertia, each week I will "reset" and reevaluate each team in turn, reweighing their respective wins. Some wins may look better in week 3, much less so by week 6, as well as the reverse. As a result, my polls may see some large jumps or drops at points between the weeks. | 26-30; Florida, BYU, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Liberty.
