Overall Rationale: So preseason rankings are thrown out and now its completely based of this season results.  Thats why certain results might seem a bit odd (such as Michigan or Auburn's position).  Read the individual reasons for a better breakdown of why certain teams are where they are.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | The Tide also looked very good in a drubbing of a Duke team that probably wont be great but still better opponent than Clemsons and thats why I have given them the #1 position (though looking at the matchups and expected winners right now I'd expect this to change next week) |
| Clemson Tigers | Sometimes teams look so impressive its hard to keep them out of the top spot and Clemson did their job well enough to earn them a top spot to start the year. |
| Auburn Tigers | This is where my belief of accomplishments over how you played starts showing itself as Auburn probably isn't the 3rd best team in the nation but they had the best win this week and I probably shouldn't have doubted odd year Auburn. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Well they looked real good beating up the Fighting Lane's this week and certainly look like a top contender for a playoff spot.  Biggest reason for them being this high is the quality of opponent is slightly better than some of the teams below (cough PSU cough). |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Well they dominated a conference opponent (even if it is just Vandy) but could still probably have finished a bit better and thats what pushes them to the 5th spot to begin the year. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Jalen Hurts looked like a bonafide Oklahoma quarterback and the defense played pretty decently.  Houston might not be their best opponent but they are certainly a respectable G5 team. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | We knew the defense was set up to ball out but the new generation offense was firing on all cylinders and did everything you can ask of them when playing Idaho in week 1 (also teams are still skurred of the Kibby Dome smh). |
| Florida Gators | I think Miami is gunna be a pretty decent team and overall Florida looked like it was playing a their first game.  That said they still won and against one of the better teams (like better teams matched up) that you can expect from week 1. |
| Oregon Ducks | Well you have to be pretty excited if your a ducks fan.  Sure the losing sucks but you looked like one of 3ish teams setting themselves up for Pac-12 title run.  Still probably trust Washington and Utah's coaching staff more but they have a raw talent advantage across the depth chart on Utah. |
| Utah Utes | BYU probably grades out around upper tier G5 and its the freaking Holy War so the closish scoreline not being a bigger margin doesn't really dissuade me.  Another favorite of mine for a playoff spot and week 1 reassured me of that. |
| Boise State Broncos | Well FSU should be better this year, Boise ain't no slouch and a true freshman QB starting on the road and not looking terrible doing it.  You have to imagine he continues to get better and the defense looked a lot better in the second half when they learned how to tackle.  Offense is also a machine.  My definite leader for the G5 NY6 bowl slot right now. |
| LSU Tigers | Looked good beating a team they should, not really impressive enough in it to be ranked higher. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | Took care of business against a reeling USF team but were able to do it on the road. so just edge out LSU for me. |
| Washington Huskies | Took care of business.  Lets see how they continue on.  Just kinda less impressive in my mind than some of the teams above them. |
| Texas A&M Aggies | Beat up on a team they should.  I expect them to have a rather underwhelming overall record with 1 or 2 big upsets and Week 2 is the first opportunity.  Will be a much better place to begin judging this team by. |
| Washington State Cougars | Mike Leach is a magician and they should be a really good team again. |
| Texas Longhorns | Did what they were supposed to but RB depth could be at risk.  Big early season opportunity to rise this week with LSU. |
| Michigan Wolverines | New look offense was looking pretty good and defense didn't leave anything to be desired.  A definite top tear contender in their division, of course thats only good for 3rd highest ranking early on in the season. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | A bit sketchy against post-Petrino Louisville (who might not be completely terrible this year) but I was still not super impressed with their performance. |
| Maryland Terrapins | Look they did really freaking good, maybe the only week they are ranked but I am rewarding that performance. |
| UCF Knights | Did their thing like we thought they would, man I'd be scared of Memphis who also was probably in my next 5 out. |
| Boston College Eagles | I still don't thing Virginia Tech is awful and the performance BC put up was a pretty decent one on a conference opponent, something thats a bit scarce this early on in the year. |
| Appalachian State Mountaineers | APP STATE BABY (they beat up a team they should and the coaching change isn't looking to rocky a road). |
| Michigan State Spartans | I am still super scared about their offense and Week 1 did nothing to temper that thought. |
| Stanford Cardinal | Rough and gritty game against a decent Northwestern team but lost your QB when I thought they were starting to play pretty well.  Will be interesting how the next few weeks shake up cause defense was better and I'm high on Stanford this year. |
