soonersthebetter Ballot for 2019 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 3, 2019, 10:41 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
Clemson Tigers Reigning national champs showed no reason to dethrone their #1 position against Georgia Tech.
Alabama Crimson Tide I think Duke is a better win that Georgia Tech, but it's certainly not enough to move Bama ahead of Clemson... yet.
Georgia Bulldogs Beating a divisional opponent on the road (I mean, was that really a road game?) to open the season is good enough for me to keep them #3.
Oklahoma Sooners The Crimson & Cream Offensive Machine has a new conductor, but keeps rolling. The defense looked better, but was still sloppy at times. I think Houston has a chance to win the AAC, so I am chalking this up as a decent win for now, and enough to keep OU at #4.
Ohio State Buckeyes FAU was probably the weakest opponent of the Top 5, but Ohio State took care of business. I see no reason to move them from the #5 spot for now.
LSU Tigers They dominated Georgia Southern.
Texas Longhorns Solid win against Louisiana Tech.
Auburn Tigers I'm skeptical about Auburn being a Top 10 team, but they deserve credit for beating Oregon at a neutral site.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Struggled, but Louisville also looks better than they were last year.
Utah Utes Great defensive performance over a rival.
Texas A&M Aggies I really have no idea where to put the Aggies. I feel like they have the talent to be a Top 10 team, but they always seem to end up with 4 or 5 losses each year. So maybe they're more of a Top 20ish team? But prior years are irrelevant for this poll, so I'm going to place them just shy of the Top 10 for now based on talent alone.
Penn State Nittany Lions I know it was Idaho, but what a performance by Penn State's defense. I was low on the Nittany Lions coming into the season, but I think I was wrong. I'm buying the Lions now.
Washington Huskies I'm a little surprised at the yards Eastern Washington put up against the Huskies, but it was a good win against a good FCS team.
Michigan Wolverines For playing against an over-matched opponent... that new offense seemed to have a lot of mistakes.
Wisconsin Badgers Just a good old-fashioned beating of South Florida.
UCF Knights Not going to get too much praise for slaughtering FAMU, but I think #16 is fair for UCF for now.
Michigan State Spartans Dominant defense, but a rather pedestrian offense.
Washington State Cougars So I thought losing Gardner Minshew would hurt the Cougars, but it looks like Anthony Gordon is the real deal.
Florida Gators Ugly win over Miami. I'm not sure Miami is any good.. and I'm not sure Florida is either now. I know it was a rivalry game against a P5 team, but this should have been an easy win for Florida.
Stanford Cardinal Northwestern is not a bad team, but the win wasn't super impressive either. I'm not sure Stanford is a Top 20 team, but I feel comfortable putting them at #20 for now.
Iowa Hawkeyes Seemed like a pretty slow start against a not-very-good FCS team.
Oregon Ducks I always have a tough time ranking a winless team in the Top 25, but I think a little credit should be given for playing a team like Auburn in Week 1. Especially when it took some late-game heroics by the other team for you to lose.
Boise State Broncos Wow, what a game by the Broncos. On the road at FSU in that swamp-ass weather with a huge comeback win. I see you Boise State.
Memphis Tigers Tigers offense didn't seem as good as last year, but they also had a lot of self-inflicted penalties. The defense seemed a lot better though.
Baylor Bears I truly think the Bears are a Top 25 team. They handled their business against SFA like you'd expect a Top 25 team to do. My on the bubble teams are: Oklahoma State, Syracuse, Nebraska, and Army.
