Overall Rationale: I have no idea who is good anymore. Except Bama. It's unfair how good they look right now.  For the record, I also considered ranking Miami, Washington, Michigan State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State. There are just too many potentially good teams to sort through in the 10-40 range right now to comfortably separate them.PS mods special character support pls! àéíóūñ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 🤷
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Just beating down everyone at this point. Unfortunately it's another 6 weeks until their next big test. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | If they put a beatdown on Penn State next week I might consider bumping them to #1 based on resumé, which will be decidedly better than Bama's at that point. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | South Carolina at Kentucky will actually decide for me whether Georgia stays this high or not. I'm not entirely convinced eastern USC is actually good. |
| LSU Tigers | I'm honestly uncomfortable putting this many SEC teams this high, but it is what it is. LSU probably has the best resumé in the country. I would have them even higher if they hadn't struggled at home against a mediocre team this week (I don't like my rankings to stagnate). Might bump them back up if it proves to be a temporary hiccup. |
| UCF Knights | I'll keep them up here as long as they remain undefeated, but if they struggle against Pitt I'm gonna have to start demoting them. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | It's starting to look like App State is actually a pretty good team, so these guys get a boost. |
| Clemson Tigers | I'm still not convinced they're for real, but at least now they've blown out a P5 opponent. |
| Stanford Cardinal | I really don't want to rank them this high, but I'm running low on top-10 candidates, and a win is a win (especially on the road against a rival). |
| Kentucky Wildcats | The Florida win continues to look better and better, and I have no reason to think that Mississippi State isn't good.  |
| Duke Blue Devils | weafootballschoolnow.meme |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Army might be an okay team this year, but that doesn't excuse nearly shitting the bed against them. Duke had a much better win against them, so this order seems natural. |
| West Virginia Mountaineers | Still haven't faced real tough competition, but they've blown out two P5 opponents now, so they've earned a ranking up here for now. |
| Syracuse Orange | Barely getting any votes in the AP poll is straight-up disrespekt. To me they're in the same boat as the Mountaineers above. |
| North Texas Mean Green | Don't @ me. These guys have blown everyone out so far so they're no less deserving than any of the other teams in this range. |
| Colorado Buffaloes | I'm honestly not sure how good they are, since it is looking like Nebraska might be *really* bad this year. We'll see how UCLA treats them. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Invigorated with a new QB, they are finally starting to look like a top-25 team. |
| California Golden Bears | Another team I'm not so sure about, but this week should clear things up. |
| USF Bulls | They continue to struggle but they continue to win. |
| Oregon Ducks | Finally I can start ranking 1-defeated teams. Oregon makes the top for now since they really *should* be undefeated were it not for the ridiculous chaos of CFB. Really I blame Old Dominion for all of this. |
| BYU Cougars | They have one really good win on their resumé, let's see if they can make it 2 this week. |
| Auburn Tigers | I'll be honest I haven't caught any of their games yet this year. But I have no reason to think that the Washington win wasn't a good one. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Our computer overlords think these guys have a 10% chance to make the playoffs? Who am I to argue? |
| NC State Wolfpack | These last three get on the list just by virtue of being undefeated, but I'm not convinced that they are actually top-25. |
| Buffalo Bulls | Welcome to the big time, Bulls. Now go win your conference so I don't look like a fool. |
| Cincinnati Bearcats | I honestly did not know Cincinnati was undefeated until I made a last-minute check of teams' records before making this poll. I get that they've played less than stellar competition but they did beat UCLA on the road, that's gotta count for something. |
