Knightro2011 Ballot for 2018 Week 5

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Sept. 24, 2018, 7:34 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Looking at my formula, it is based on Bill Connolly's Five Factors for Offense and Defense as well as using the Colley Matrix formula for Strength of Schedule and regular season record.I'll explain more on Tuesday when I can because I think there might some controversy. It's still early and, as I saw last year, it's a better predictor by the end of the season.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Bama has the 2nd best offense so far. Tua is the truth.
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia has the 2nd best defense so far this year.
Penn State Nittany Lions
Clemson Tigers
Oklahoma Sooners Oklahoma has the #1 offense but their strength of schedule thus far hasn't been the greatest.
Kentucky Wildcats Okay, I figured this would be an outlier. The Wildcats have the #5 defense so far and that's what put them up so high.
Stanford Cardinal
Ohio State Buckeyes
Duke Blue Devils Another outlier so far. The Blue Devils are undefeated and have the #10 ranked defense according to my formula.
UCF Knights
Mississippi State Bulldogs The highest ranked 1 loss team and yes, they are ahead of LSU and Notre Dame who are both undefeated. Strength of schedule so far far has been good, their offense is in the top 25 as is their defense.
LSU Tigers
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Miami Hurricanes
Florida Gators
Appalachian State Mountaineers Knightro, did you pick the wrong Mountaineers? Nope, App State's offense has been fantastic so far (Thanks, Penn State). And their defense has the benefit of games against Charlotte and Gardner-Webb. They will fall as the season progresses.
West Virginia Mountaineers
Michigan Wolverines
Buffalo Bulls We need some MACtion to start because I don't think Buffalo's defense will hold up. That is what is keeping them up this high as well as being undefeated.
Virginia Cavaliers The Wahoos defense is keeping them in a lot of games even though they lost to Indiana. Early season scheduling is keeping them up high.
Auburn Tigers
Washington Huskies
Maryland Terrapins The Terps have a top 25 defense thus far. That loss against Temple may not do them any favors going down the road.
Houston Cougars For all this talk about Ed Oliver, Houston's defense has not been very good. Their offense, meanwhile, is ranked 10th in the country on my formula.
NC State Wolfpack
