hokies220 Ballot for 2018 Week 5

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Sept. 24, 2018, 1:55 p.m.

Overall Rationale: I'm listing mine as hybrid because I'm following a formula of set criteria, but doing it all by hand and I'm deciding any tiebreakers. A few notable outliers this week with ND, Maryland, BYU, and Buffalo all being quite high. While Clemson is still a bit lower than I'd like. Since FCS wins don't count my poll really likes teams from the B1G and SEC that have either all FBS wins or multiple P5 wins.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Pretty self explanatory, four big wins with three of them being over P5 teams.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Also three P5 wins, but they're honestly helped out a lot by Michigan continuing to do well.
Penn State Nittany Lions I also give road wins a bit of bonus so with two blowouts of P5 teams on the road leaps them up to #3. Huge matchup this weekend against OSU.
Stanford Cardinal I was a little surprised to see Stanford this high, although by total points they're behind UGA, OSU, and LSU. But I won't put two teams from the same conference in the top four.
Georgia Bulldogs Tied with OSU, but wins at Scar and Mizzou are more impressive than murdering helpless beavers and buttgers.
Ohio State Buckeyes Still though I wouldn't want to play OSU right now.
LSU Tigers Kinda got complacent and nearly let Louisiana Tech back in to it.
Duke Blue Devils If Army had managed to pull the upset Duke would've retained their top 4 spot. As it is though they're probably the favorite to win the Coastal now.
Oklahoma Sooners Struggled mightily with the triple option, interested to see how they bounce back against a 3-1 Baylor team.
Kentucky Wildcats Last week my poll had Miss State here and Kentucky at 19, but after they beat the crap out of them they jumped quite a bit. Snell is the truth.
Clemson Tigers Nearly hurt by GT being bad almost as much as they were helped for the road win.
Maryland Terrapins Way too high after getting beaten down by Temple, but with wins over Minnesota and Texas they jumped back in with a vengeance.
Wisconsin Badgers Also jumped right back into the mix with a road win by double digits, regardless of how it happened. Had Iowa won they would've likely jumped up to around here.
BYU Cougars I don't like having them in and not having Cal, who is 27th in my poll, but it's honestly my fault for counting them as G5 rather than P5.
USF Bulls GT and Illinois losing dropped USF a little this week.
Buffalo Bulls Buffalo was already a top 30 team in my poll last week, so beating down Rutgers on the road caused them to jump up a bit, even though we all know Rutgers is terrible I'm ok with giving the Bulls some recognition for starting 4-0.
Texas Longhorns Back to back 15+ point wins over USC and TCU got Texas into my poll for the first time this season. So Texas is not back they just arrived.
Indiana Hoosiers Because my poll doesn't punish losses to P5 teams very much they stayed ranked, while MSU is still on the outside looking in. Near the bottom here things get tightly packed so had Louisville beaten UVA they would've dropped ~6 spots.
Auburn Tigers Ahead of the team they already beat as they're tied in points.
Washington Huskies Welcome back, Huskies.
North Texas Mean Green Also welcome to UNT. Aside from FAU last year this might be the first time a CUSA team has made it into my poll.
South Carolina Gamecocks Good win on the road @Vandy now they get their Wildcat Kryptonite.
Syracuse Orange Does Babers finally have Syracuse fully turned? Find out against Clemson.
West Virginia Mountaineers Really beat the crap out of KSU, but now they have to travel to Lubbock to take on a team with a little more ability on offense, the Red Raiders came in just shy of the top 25 at #26 btw.
Michigan Wolverines They've done nothing but dominate since losing to Notre Dame week one. Really interested in the game against Maryland in two weeks.
