TheJeemTeam Ballot for 2018 Week 4

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Sept. 16, 2018, 1:16 p.m.

Overall Rationale: My hybrid poll utilizes two computer polls. A preseason component that I will phase out as the season goes along and a results-oriented poll. The preseason component is 55% this week and the results-oriented poll is 45%.The Preseason component is made up of Past season's results, Returning production, 2 year recruiting Avg., and Coaching continuity. The results-oriented component is made up of Winning %, Points per Game differential, Yards per Play differential, and Strength of Schedule. Once the overall rankings are developed, I split the teams that are close to each other into tiers and re-rank within the tiers. The tier of teams after 25th ranked Syracuse, representing the teams just missing the rankings, were Boise St., Washington St., Texas A&M, TCU, and South Carolina.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide 1/1 in Tier A: If my computer didn't have them #1, I would've considered it deeply flawed, thrown it out, and done a human poll.
Penn State Nittany Lions 1/1 in Tier B: Shocked to see PSU this high up. Blowout win over Kent St. and running up the score against Pitt helps MoV though, likely putting them here over a relatively small sample size.
Ohio State Buckeyes 1/1 in Tier C
Georgia Bulldogs 1/3 in Tier D: Has looked more dominating in general than the other two teams in the tier. Best win (41-17 over S Carolina) is more impressive than Clemson's (28-26 over TAMU)
Clemson Tigers 2/3 in Tier D
Mississippi State Bulldogs 3/3 in Tier D: My computer has loved Miss. St. Still think they're not at the level of UGA or Clemson though.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 1/1 in Tier E
Miami Hurricanes 1/1 in Tier F
Oklahoma Sooners 1/2 in Tier G
Michigan Wolverines 2/2 in Tier G: Loss to ND makes it easy to select Oklahoma over Michigan
Oklahoma State Cowboys 1/3 in Tier H: Best win in the group (44-21 over Boise St.)
Stanford Cardinal 2/3 in Tier H: 2nd best win the group (17-3 over USC)
Iowa Hawkeyes 3/3 in Tier H
Boston College Eagles 1/1 in Tier I
Oregon Ducks 1/1 in Tier J
Auburn Tigers 1/4 in Tier K: Best loss in group (21-22 to LSU) other than Washington
Washington Huskies 2/4 in Tier K: Head-to-head loss to Auburn puts them behind them in the group.
Florida Gators 3/4 in Tier K: 2nd worst loss in the group (16-27 to Kentucky).
Wisconsin Badgers 4/4 in Tier K: Worst loss in the group (21-24 to BYU)
West Virginia Mountaineers 1/2 in Tier L: Best win of the two (40-14 over Tennessee)
UCF Knights 2/2 in Tier L
LSU Tigers 1/3 in Tier M: 2 great wins over Miami and Auburn put them at the top of this tier.
Virginia Tech Hokies 2/3 in Tier M
Duke Blue Devils 3/3 in Tier M: Honestly don't believe they should be ranked despite 3-0 record. Northwestern win looks less impressive after they lost to Akron.
Syracuse Orange 1/1 in Tier N: Surprising inclusion in the rankings. Believe SOS may be overrating FSU, therefore overrating their win over them.
