Overall Rationale: This is a computer-generated poll, determined by scoring each team's offensive and defensive performances on a game-to-game basis based on the result of the game, the quality of the opposing unit and the number on the scoreboard, recursively calculated (so future performances will affect the value of past performances, if an opponent is determined to be better or worse than they seemed). So this doesn't look ridiculous, I've "seeded" the poll with the /r/CFB preseason poll numbers, so it had some general idea of how good each team was when the season started. Alabama would be #1 either way, though, so it's already doing a pretty good job at letting teams converge to their actual strength.
