hokies220 Ballot for 2018 Week 4

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 16, 2018, 11:18 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Things are definitely shaping up more as there are more games played and I tweak my grading formula a little. FCS wins don't count, and you have to have a winning record vs FBS teams to make it. Top four are who I'd put in right now based on SoS. My poll greatly values wins and having teams you beat win games, while not punishing most losses too much.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Destroying teams who also have wins.
Ohio State Buckeyes Even with Rutgers and Oregon State losing points for the, they still had the second most points.
Duke Blue Devils Northwestern losing hurt them a bit, but Army winning helped. Still have two road P5 wins.
Oklahoma Sooners If only UCLA wasn't hot garbage they'd be higher.
Penn State Nittany Lions Technically had more points in my poll than OU, but I'll never put two teams from the same conference in. Those games will always be settled during the season.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Michigan and Vandy both having a few wins helped them here, as well as having two P5 wins.
Indiana Hoosiers Surprise surprise I guess. Mainly helped by the fact that FIU and UVA both won games as well. I know they beat Ball State more handily than ND did yet ND is ahead due to two P5 wins.
LSU Tigers If LSU had scheduled some terrible G5 team rather than FCS for week two they'd be even higher.
BYU Cougars Really helped out by two road wins over P5 teams, even if one of them is Arizona who is bad and should feel bad.
Mississippi State Bulldogs A little surprised to see them up this high, but it is what it is.
Georgia Bulldogs I know they're low compared to where the majority will have them, but they rose nine spots this week. Just give it time.
Clemson Tigers I know they're low compared to where the majority will have them, but they rose fifteen spots this week. Just give it time.
USF Bulls Helped by having two P5 wins, one on the road against otherwise undefeated Illinois, and GT losing actually kept them from being ranked top ten.
Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors Since my poll doesn't punish losses too much, and they lost by one possession on the road, they stay too highly ranked. Mainly here because of their three FBS wins because they did actually lose points this week.
Stanford Cardinal Actually stayed the same rank this week despite playing FCS, thanks to SDSU upsetting ASU.
California Golden Bears Dropped a bit from playing FCS, but thanks to BYU winning at Wisconsin they stay top 20. I know they beat BYU, but since I count BYU as G5 rather than P5, along with UNC losing to ECU, it keeps BYU ranked ahead. I don't like it anymore than you do because if I did count BYU as P5 they'd be tied in points and Cal obviously has the tiebreaker.
Army West Point Hugely helped by Hawaii and their wins, surprised to see them this high this week. Against OU this week I'm definitely expecting them to drop.
Boston College Eagles Everyone knew about AJ Dillon, but if you saw their level of competent and lethal passing offense coming you're a liar.
Kentucky Wildcats Slight drop this week for gaining no points playing FCS.
Minnesota Golden Gophers Fresno State winning, even though again UCLA is hot garbage, bumped them up a few spots. Well, along with winning their own game against the MAC cough cough Northwestern.
Boise State Broncos Technically tied in points with Syracuse, but I honestly think @Troy is a better win than FSU and WMU combined.
Syracuse Orange But still though credit where credit is due, they won the opener on the road and then smashed FSU in the face.
Iowa Hawkeyes Iowa is doing alright, dropped a bit from last week at #17.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Them and Boise make up the second set of "but they already played and they won" in my poll, and again I don't like it. Don't play FCS teams though and it won't happen.
Colorado Buffaloes Technically were tied with Oklahoma State, ASU, Maryland, Houston, and UNT. Obviously I ranked Oklahoma State for their dominant win, and thought about ranking UNT here in recognition of their win, but Nebraska is probably better than Arkansas. Surely? Right?
