Overall Rationale: Out here ranking teams and shit you know how I do. Blend of eye test, massey composite, and general "I think this team is better than other team" rationalization.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | As if the stifling defense and punishing running game weren't enough, now they also have a super passing attack. Yipee.  |
| Clemson Tigers | |
| Georgia Bulldogs | |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Ohio State survived a tough road game against a surprisingly fast TCU squad. The offense is still humming, but the defense will need to tighten up if they have championship hopes.  |
| Oklahoma Sooners | |
| LSU Tigers | |
| Stanford Cardinal | |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | I think people are seriously sleeping on this team and have been all year. The offense is still humming as usual, but now they seem to have a competent defense too. I'm struggling to figure out why they're #15 in the AP when West Virginia is #12 without having played a team with a pulse. Massey is even higher on Oklahoma State, putting them at #8. Oklahoma State's schedule is very backloaded, but they could walk into Norman undefeated in November. |
| Auburn Tigers | |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | |
| Mississippi State Bulldogs | |
| Washington Huskies | |
| TCU Horned Frogs | |
| Virginia Tech Hokies | |
| UCF Knights | |
| Wisconsin Badgers | |
| Michigan Wolverines | |
| Texas A&M Aggies | |
| Oregon Ducks | |
| West Virginia Mountaineers | I'm still trying to figure out where the hype for this team came from, outside of them having Grier now. They weren't a particularly great team last season and I don't think it was necessarily quarterback that was their problem. They haven't even been remotely tested yet either. They're probably a top 25 team, but I refuse to rank them higher until I see them play a team that's closer to their level than Tennessee and Youngstown State.  |
| Iowa Hawkeyes | |
| Boston College Eagles | The bane of BC for years has been a putrid offense to compliment a stout defense. The offense problems seem to be fixed, and BC has a fairly favorable conference schedule, getting Miami and Clemson at home. Vtech and NC State on the road will be tough tests, but this team could make some noise in the ACC. |
| Duke Blue Devils | Duke has looked pretty strong out of the gate. They'll be tested in a couple of weeks against Virginia Tech.  |
| Miami Hurricanes |
