ilacwamh Ballot for 2024 Week 12

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 12, 2024, 3:11 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I value resume far above everything else. The most important metrics for me are record, quality of wins, and head-to-head performance. I’m a big believer that quality of losses don’t mean much without quality of wins to back them up, so I tend to rank teams with a bad loss and quality wins over teams with losses to good teams and no quality wins.

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks 1. Oregon is the best team with two very solid wins over top ten teams and an undefeated record.
BYU Cougars 2. BYU is firmly second with a very solid win over a first-place out of conference team along with another solid top-20 win while being undefeated.
Ohio State Buckeyes 3. Ohio State is the best one-loss team with a good win over Penn State and exclusively losing to the top-ranked team.
Indiana Hoosiers 4. Indiana is fourth due to being undefeated, but is a step below the top 3 for now due to lack of quality wins.
SMU Mustangs 5. SMU is the top team in their conference with their only loss coming to an undefeated team and a good win over Louisville.
Boise State Broncos 6. Boise State has a good win over Washington State and has only lost to the top-ranked team.
Tennessee Volunteers 7. Tennessee has a very solid win over Alabama and just one loss.
Alabama Crimson Tide 8. Alabama has the most wins over the current top 25, making them the best two-loss team.
Ole Miss Rebels 9. Ole Miss has a very solid win over Georgia along with nice wins over LSU and South Carolina.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 10. Notre Dame has a solid win over Texas A&M with just one loss.
Georgia Bulldogs 11. Georgia has a strong win over Texas but losses to two other two-loss teams drop them out of the top 10.
Miami Hurricanes 12. Miami has one loss and a decent win over Louisville.
Texas Longhorns 13. Texas has looked good overall, but has a loss and doesn’t have any particularly impressive wins.
Penn State Nittany Lions 14. Penn State has just one loss, but they don’t have any wins over good teams, which keeps them outside the top 10.
Texas A&M Aggies 15. Texas A&M has two losses and has looked decent against teams at the lower end of the rankings.
Army West Point 16. Army is undefeated, but they have had the second easiest schedule in the FBS, which keeps them outside the top 15.
Kansas State Wildcats 17. Kansas State has two losses and decent wins over Colorado and Tulane.
Washington State Cougars 18. Washington State has only lost to top ten Boise State, but lack of quality wins keeps them below the other one loss teams.
LSU Tigers 19. LSU looked bad against Alabama, but multiple solid showings against ranked teams keeps them as the best three-loss team.
Louisville Cardinals 20. Louisville has only lost to top 15 teams and has a solid win over Clemson, earning them a spot at the lower end of the rankings.
South Carolina Gamecocks 21. South Carolina has only lost to top 20 teams and has a good win over Texas A&M.
Colorado Buffaloes 22-25. These spots are two-loss Power 4 teams that don’t have any impressive wins. They get in by virtue of their not being a lot of Power 4 teams with two losses. Arizona State and Pitt are just outside along with Louisiana.
Clemson Tigers 22-25. These spots are two-loss Power 4 teams that don’t have any impressive wins. They get in by virtue of their not being a lot of Power 4 teams with two losses. Arizona State and Pitt are just outside along with Louisiana.
Missouri Tigers 22-25. These spots are two-loss Power 4 teams that don’t have any impressive wins. They get in by virtue of their not being a lot of Power 4 teams with two losses. Arizona State and Pitt are just outside along with Louisiana.
Iowa State Cyclones 22-25. These spots are two-loss Power 4 teams that don’t have any impressive wins. They get in by virtue of their not being a lot of Power 4 teams with two losses. Arizona State and Pitt are just outside along with Louisiana.
