TristanARoss Ballot for 2024 Week 12

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 11, 2024, 11:37 p.m.

Overall Rationale: I watch as many games as I can, get a feel for how things played out over the week, keep track of results, and then compare teams to both how they did this week, and how they've done across the season. I keep in mind SOS and SOV. ||| Schools that dropped out from my rankings last week: Iowa State, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Minnesota. ||| Schools out of the Top 25 that I still considered: Arizona State, Iowa State, James Madison, Louisiana, Memphis, Navy, UConn.

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks Okay. Next?
Ohio State Buckeyes Slotting into #2 after Georgia's loss. The past few weeks I had you on their heels, as I felt your play was a little too atypical of the program and the loss to Oregon was still hanging overhead. That's not the case anymore.
Texas Longhorns Great win over Florida brings you up to #3, and swapping places with Penn State in the pecking order. Shaking off that loss to Georgia quite nicely, and argument can be made that that's already the case.
Penn State Nittany Lions Moves up to #4 with a good win over Washington. Not much else to say here, Penn State has been playing solid football this year and figures to continue.
Tennessee Volunteers Up into #5 with a nice win over Mississippi State. Much like Texas-OSU, the argument can be made that Indiana is ahead, but I point and say look at who both schools have played.
Indiana Hoosiers Shifting up into #6 with a win against Michigan. Your real test of the season comes soon when you play Ohio State. Fortunately for you, you've got time to rest up and prepare.
BYU Cougars That was a real squeaker of a game, but you came out on top, and that brings you up to #7. The rest of the season should be smoother sailing. Leading the Big 12 with an undefeated record is also real nice.
Alabama Crimson Tide Back into the top 10 with a big, much needed win over LSU! That tough stretch in the middle of the year has dropped out of view of your rear view mirrors at this point, and there's no better time to put the hammer down than now.
Ole Miss Rebels And you break INTO the top 10 with a win over Georgia! Who had that on their bingo card?! You guys get two weeks to bask in the radiance of this victory before it's back to business against Florida.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Usually a win that dominant would have me moving you up, but it was against the court jester Norvell and his good fellows (who deserve better) at FSU, so, at #10 you remain.
Georgia Bulldogs Georgiaaaa, what happennnned-uh? I mean losing to Ole Miss isn't the worst thing in the world, at least they're ranked, but that was more than just a typical loss. That was more of a dressing down. You need to bounce back from this and in a hurry because Tennessee is up next.
Boise State Broncos Ashton Jeanty may very well deliver you to the CFP. A win over Nevada has you moving on up. Keep grinding, the dream very much alive.
Miami Hurricanes And so, at last, the well has gone dry. Despite a good offensive performance, the defense simply didn't show up to do their typical Miami things, like generating turnovers and making big stops on third down, and it's a loss by attrition to Georgia Tech. I suppose it had to come some time, I just didn't expect Georgia Tech to be the one to do it.
SMU Mustangs
Clemson Tigers A win over VTech moves you up a place, but not much else. Don't get me wrong, a win's a win, but everyone else around you did more or less the same, in a more convincing fashion, against tougher teams.
Army West Point Another win, this time over North Texas, has you moving up a little. The lack of offensive production as of late is a cause for concern, but hey, so long as the defense keeps doing what they're doing, right?
Texas A&M Aggies ...God if it isn't you it's your friend--
LSU Tigers --YOU! First Texas A&M makes me look like an ass, now you do! You two are trouble, you know that? I really thought you'd put up more of a fight than that against Alabama. You and TAMU deserve each other, now go down and join them!
Washington State Cougars Right, sorry that you had to see that, Butch. Great win over Utah State! It'll really be something if you manage to walk the tightrope into the CFP, after all that's happened to your conference. A lot of things have to go your way aside from just simply winning out, but I'm rooting for you. Keep going!
Kansas State Wildcats
Louisville Cardinals
Colorado Buffaloes I'd considered you guys for being ranked last week, but it seems I slept on you guys a little too hard. "I owe you an apology; I wasn't really familiar with your game," basically. Winning against another school that I'd considered for the Top 25 last week, Texas Tech, will do that.
Tulane Green Wave Tulane! Another school I considered last week going on to take a spot this week. This run of yours has been really impressive, and it'll have to keep being that way as you finish the season with Navy and Memphis.
Missouri Tigers Welcome back to the Top 25, Mizzou. A contested win over Oklahoma will certainly help in getting you back here. Question is if you'll stay here. Answer is... who knows? South Carolina is no slouch and that's your immediate next matchup. Then you've got Mississippi State and Arkansas to end things off. We'll see what happens.
South Carolina Gamecocks What a rollercoaster ride it has been. A good win over Vanderbilt puts you into the Top 25 after a 3 game win streak that's been borne from the near loss against Alabama. Much like Vandy, my comments about them last week sort of apply to you too. After only narrowly missing out on victory over a highly ranked opponent, you've been hungry and out to prove things. You've since actually beaten a highly ranked opponent, and continued on your winning ways. Mizzou is up next, and they are right there with you, equally wanting to set the record straight.
