Overall Rationale: Early season rankings are based largely on expected results versus other ranked teams, and as the season goes leans more heavily on actual resume. By the end of the season, rankings are based entirely on resume. I lean heavily into head to head results and results against common opponents. I also sort teams into 6 tiers based on championship/playoff likelihood. Tier 1: Championship Frontrunners, near lock to make playoffs Tier 2: Championship Contenders with excellent chance of making playoffs Tier 3: Decent possibility to make playoffs, unlikely to compete for championship Tier 4: Outside playoff shot Tier 5: Unlikely to make playoffs but not quite eliminated Tier 6: No shot at playoffs

1 Oregon Ducks Tier 1.
2 Ohio State Buckeyes Tier 2. Still some issues to work out but this team is improving.
3 Texas Longhorns Tier 2. Returning more to their early season form.
4 BYU Cougars Tier 3. Close call. I'm still not sure how good they are.
5 Penn State Nittany Lions Tier 3.
6 Miami Hurricanes Tier 3. Finally dropped one. Unsure if that was an anomaly or a trend.
7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Tier 3.
8 Tennessee Volunteers Tier 3.
9 Indiana Hoosiers Tier 3. 10Windiana. Top Tendiana.
10 Alabama Crimson Tide Tier 3. Bludgeoning of LSU shows this is still a playoff caliber team.
11 Ole Miss Rebels Tier 3. Great win over UGA puts them right back in playoff mix.
12 Georgia Bulldogs Tier 3. Tough team to rank. Offense isn't great but defense is. They've beaten #3 and #18 but have lost to #10 and #11. Right at the playoff periphery seems good.
13 SMU Mustangs Tier 4. Their quality loss still holds up but their good wins have all slid a bit.
14 Boise State Broncos Tier 4.
15 Washington State Cougars Tier 4.
16 Army West Point Tier 4.
17 Texas A&M Aggies Tier 4.
18 Clemson Tigers Tier 4.
19 Kansas State Wildcats Tier 4.
20 Colorado Buffaloes Tier 4. Team has surprisingly held up well. Loss to Nebraska still hurts them a lot but they've got some solid wins under their belt now.
21 Missouri Tigers Tier 4. Lots of close wins to decent competition. But the two toughest teams were crushing losses.
22 LSU Tigers Tier 4. Starting to get into the range of moving down to tier 5. 9-3 against a tough schedule *might* be good enough though.
23 Iowa State Cyclones Tier 4.
24 Pittsburgh Panthers Tier 4.
25 Arizona State Sun Devils Tier 4. Tied for 3rd in the wide open Big 12 race. They still have a shot.
