Mynameisdiehard Ballot for 2024 Week 12

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 11, 2024, 12:10 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Heavier weight on record, weighing overall strength of record with results, comparing head to head and weighing strengths of wins/losses. Just missed: South Carolina, Louisiana, Pittsburgh, Iowa St., Dropped: Pittsburgh, Iowa St.,

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks Clear #1
BYU Cougars Squeaked out a win in a tough rivalry game. No fault there. Getting down to the wire and other undefeated teams are dropping games while they remain undefeated.
Indiana Hoosiers Same as above. Looking like the matchup in 2 weeks against OSU will decide who is facing Oregon in the Big Ten championship. Much needed bye for IU to prepare.
Ohio State Buckeyes Not much to say here as long as they keep winning. The matchup with IU will tell us everything we need to know. Still think they make the playoff even with 2 losses.u
Boise State Broncos As has happened all season, everyone is under ranking Boise. A 3 point loss to the consensus number 1 team. The only team that has a better loss is OSU, who only lost by 1. They deserve respect. and I am upset at myself for not doing this sooner. Time for me to follow my own resume building rules.
SMU Mustangs Similar to the above, a 3 point loss to the #2 team deserves the respect. Their ranking is somewhat tied to BYU, but at the same time they are also padding their resumes with great wins against good teams in conference. The easiest stretch of their schedule is left and then off to the ACC champ game assuming no hiccups.
Penn State Nittany Lions Just in a tough spot. They are definitely a good team but a very real possibility they finish with 1 loss and not chance at a conference championship game. The sad reality of today's realignment. This may work in their favor though as I think they are a shoe in with for the CFP with 1 loss. May be interesting though if there are 4 Big Ten teams fighting for spots. Their loss is a 7 point loss to the #4 team, so I updated resumes and they got jumped this week.
Texas Longhorns SEC continues to spiral and I am honestly at a loss for where to put teams. It is actually worse for Texas that UGA fell this week, but even after reevaluating everyone's resumes, they are still have one of the more solid 1 loss resumes. They do control their own destiny, seeing as they face off against TAMU to end the season. Could be a winner take all for Big 12 title game/CFP bid. They need to watch out for Arkansas & Kentucky firth though as they have proven mighty roadblocks for the SEC this year.
Tennessee Volunteers Resume has them with an ok loss to a decent Arkansas team. Middle of the road but when reevaluating Texas's resume, it is worse therefore I have had them jump. I am really not holding too much stock in the win over Alabama due to the way the SEC's down year.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Not much changing here. Looking forward to the matchup with Army here in a couple of weeks.
Army West Point Grinding out gritty wins. You love to see it. Still massively low on the SOS, but all that can change with a win over ND. If they stay undefeated they are a lock for the CFP in my book, therefore I put them in the top 12. Needed bye before the big matchup.
Washington State Cougars Moving Boise up elevated Wazzou in my books. If that is their only loss in the season, I think they are deserving of a conversation for the CFP. People may clown on their SOS, but a couple of respectable wins against Texas Tech and Washington show this team is still good.
Miami Hurricanes I have said for multiple weeks that I felt a slip up was inevitable and here we found it. Now they need help to make it to their conf champ game, and could very well be on the outside looking in for the CFP. Having Louisville back to ranked is helpful, but other teams have more ranked wins. Even with 1 loss, if they can't get the ACC championship under their belts, they are going to need help to make the playoff.
Texas A&M Aggies SEC is just difficult right now. How I see it is Texas A&M is in the driver's seat, therefore I have them the highest of the 2 loss SEC teams
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama beat LSU who beat Ole Miss. The Vandy loss is still not great in my book, but almost every 2 loss SEC team has a bad loss.
Ole Miss Rebels Ole Miss beat UGA
Georgia Bulldogs And Georgia losing this week is disastrous. If they don't beat Tennessee this week, their season is all but done and they can kiss any hope of the CFP goodbye this year. 3 loss SEC team is not going to cut it barring some massive collapses.
Clemson Tigers Losses to Georgia and Louisville are alright at this point, They have a tough road to the ACC championship game, but if they win out it will be an excellent resume padder. They probably need to win the conference to get in to the CFP still though.
Kansas State Wildcats Coming back from a bye week and a tough 3 game stretch. I wouldn't be surprised if they drop a game or two during it. Even if they win out, they are hurting their own resume in the process. Bit of a catch-22 and they would also need Colorado to slip to get back in the view of the Big 12 championship game
Colorado Buffaloes Lost to KSU so they are here for now, but it may not matter. They do need them to keep winning to help the resume as the loss to Nebraska is rough, but it seems to be merely a blip and they control their own destiny to the Big 12 title game, with about as easy of a run-in as you can ask for, playing 3 of the bottom 5 teams in the conference, including the bottom 2.
Missouri Tigers Honestly seems about right that Missouri would barely take home a game that their opponent was trying every which way to lose and still benefit from it. I am still of the mind that Mizzou are big frauds, even winning out may not be enough to get them into the CFP. Hoping South Carolina just takes care of them this weekend so we can stop talking about them for good.
Louisville Cardinals Hurt by Miami tumbling down the rankings, but still for all 3 of their losses to be highly ranked teams, they deserve to be here.
Tulane Green Wave Sneaking in here with their respectable 2 loss record. They can either solidify against Navy this week or fall back to the shadows.
Arizona State Sun Devils They are one of the few respectable 2 loss teams left. Either way they play Kansas St this week, so only one will survive.
LSU Tigers Was a tough decision. Even though LSU took a beating and earned their 3rd loss of the season, they still have a decent resume and are worthy of remaining in the Top 25, even over recent 2 loss teams in Iowa St. & Pitt.
