eddietheintern Ballot for 2024 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 9, 2024, 11:17 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Vibes/performance through week 2

Rank Team Reason
Texas Longhorns Most tested against real teams out of the powerhouse programs. I remain unconvinced about Ewers but their defense looks legit, much more than last year
Georgia Bulldogs It's Georgia
Ohio State Buckeyes Really really good shot at winning the B1G with Oregon and Michigan looking so flawed
Alabama Crimson Tide Bit of a scare against USF but DeBoer is still a great coach and Milroe looks much improved
Ole Miss Rebels Team looks great witha very productive offense but only against very weak opposition so far
Miami Hurricanes Ward looks really good but slightly inconsistent. Considered actually putting them over Ole Miss because Miami has actually been tested but they just don't look as confident
Missouri Tigers Drink is a great coach and has a solid shot at a 10 win season this year. Don't sleep on these guys even if the talent gap with the top SEC programs is there. The conference is insanely top heavy this year
Penn State Nittany Lions These guys will probably screw it up in the long run as usual and Allar is pretty ass but there is no team likelier to meet Ohio State in the B1G championship and if PSU wins that game they will have a playoff bye. Outside shot at going all the way if the bracket breaks favorably to them
Utah Utes I expect Utah to win the B12 which looks wide open thia year. Their defense is awesome and they have like a 30 year old QB. Flawed team in some ways but great coach and easiest path to a playoff bye of maybe any school
USC Trojans I'm surprised by how much I like USC so far but they cooked LSU and Miller Moss is apparently the real deal which is very funny. I'd be a little worried about them if I was Ryan Day
Oregon Ducks I'm biased but the Ducks have just not looked good to me so far, especially on offense. They underperformed against Boise State but what's worse is how badly they did against Idaho. Productive offense in terms of yards but they haven't figured out how to turn that into scores yet. If they weren't absolutely stacked with talent I wouldn't even rank them but I can't justify leaving them out of the top 12 until they actually lose a game
Arizona Wildcats Fifita and TMac are awesome and this is definitely the non-Washington team I'm rooting for the most. Despite the new coaching staff the offense is gelling really well and Fifita is unironically a dark horse for the Heisman. They absolutely need to figure out the defense though. Very very good shot at being the second B12 team in the playoff as long as they only lose in the conference championship/to Utah
Tennessee Volunteers Nico has been improving and Tennessee is finally starting to perform about as well as you'd expect given their talent composite. Very Penn State-like program but they have way more nuclear bomb teams in the conference above them than PSU does this year so they're less likely to make the playoff
Oklahoma Sooners It's Oklahoma! They're pretty good but like not that good! Basically all I have to say for now
Oklahoma State Cowboys Ollie rules and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go for 1800 yards rushing this season despite the slow start. That being said the Pokes have to shake off the jitters and play the first quarters as hard as they do the second halves. God I wish there was Bedlam this year.
Nebraska Cornhuskers Raiola is kind of awesome and I was really impressed by Nebraska when they beat Colorado. B1G is stacked of course but honestly they have a relatively easy schedule as the conference goes - they have to avoid traps against Illinois and Purdue but if they beat USC they can lose to Ohio State and still get another shot at them in the conference championship as long as it's their only loss. Keep an eye on them I think their playoff chances are underrated
Louisville Cardinals Oh man the ACC is weak this year. Miami looks legit but Louisville might serve the same role this year they did last year - mid opponent in the conference championship for the only real contender in the ACC. Hopefully Ward stays healthy.
Kansas State Wildcats People are really high on these guys and I can see why but they have not looked very impressive to me on the field. Their schedule means they probably have to beat 2 of 3 of Arizona, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State to make the conference championship and I'm not sure they can pull that off. We'll see though.
Washington Huskies I was worried about my Huskies preseason and I still don't think Will Rogers is that dude but the rushing attack has looked great and Rogers has been completing key passes when the chips are down, even on fourth down. Defense looking much stouter than last year's too. Granted Weber State and Eastern Michigan are not Texas and Ohio State but it's not hard to imagine Washington beating Michigan, Penn State, and/or even Oregon at this stage. We also play USC - we just have a really tough schedule in general this year - but we're on track for a nice 9 win season I think. Definitely being underrated in the AP poll.
Boston College Eagles I hope BC keeps winning because their coach is awesome and they would be a way more fun conference championship opponent for Miami than Louisville. #20 feels about right for them.
LSU Tigers Mid but talented
Michigan Wolverines Mid but talented. Davis Warren is crazy ass
Clemson Tigers Mid but talented
Northern Illinois Huskies LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Iowa State Cyclones People might overlook Iowa State still but their win over Iowa at Iowa is really nothing to sneeze at. It was a solid performance against a legendary defense and an average performance against probably still a trash offense.
