Overall Rationale: Dropped Out (11) Notre Dame (17) NC State (20) Kansas (21) Iowa
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | (-) FCS win, never in doubt. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | (-) MAC win, never in doubt. |
| Texas Longhorns | (-) Dominate win against Michigan. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | (+3) Great win, Nico is very fun. I hope this isn't an over reaction but I do have Tennessee in the SEC championship this year and believe in this team. Polls this early in the season are more about predictive measures to me. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | (-) FCS win, never in doubt. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | (-2) It seems that I over reacted moving Penn State up from 7 to 4. I think Penn State will be a very good team this year and end up winning 10 or 11 games. MAC teams can be a problem sometimes (I would know, Minnesota) but coming out with a win is still a win. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | (-1) Dropped simple because Tennessee rose up. Alabama struggled with USF last year and still made the playoffs and lost in OT to the national champion. I don't think this game is a huge indictment on Alabama, but confirms that USF is a very good G5/6 team this season and will give Memphis a run in the American. |
| Oregon Ducks | (-) 2 kicks returned for TD's gives Oregon the win at home. I am not as high on Oregon in the Big Ten as I am Penn State. Boise State is a very good team and is one of the 5 teams that I could see making the playoffs out of the G5 spot. |
| Miami Hurricanes | (-) FCS win, never in doubt. |
| Utah Utes | (-) It looks like Risings injury is 'not serious' and I hope that is the case. Utah is a very good team when he plays. They beat a conference foe in their first* big 12 game that doesn't count as a big 12 game thanks to the realignment. |
| Missouri Tigers | (+2) MAC win, never in doubt. Up to 0 points allowed through two games. |
| USC Trojans | (+3) MWC win, never in doubt. Miller Moss. |
| Kansas State Wildcats | (-1) At Tulane is a pretty good win, especially this early in the season. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | (+2) Looked bad in the fist half and Gordon never really got going thanks to the early deficit. Oklahoma State needs to play to their strengths if they want to have a good season. |
| Nebraska Cornhuskers | (+3) I have been high on Nebraska this year and think Raiola is going to be the piece that finally brings them back. This team has a good chance to start 7-0. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | (+3) Oklahoma looked bad but moved up this week thanks to Notre Dame, Michigan, and NC State dropping down or out. |
| Louisville Cardinals | (+8) Oversight on my part in the preseason poll, Louisville is still good. |
| LSU Tigers | (+4) LSU played USC to the wire, moved up because of 5 teams ahead of them dropping. |
| Memphis Tigers | (+4) My pick to make the playoffs from the G5, but might have to be perfect to stay ahead of Boise with their 'quality loss' at Oregon this week. |
| Iowa State Cyclones | (NEW) Big time adversity at half time in Iowa City. The defense played extremely well for Iowa's last 5 drives, or it could have just been Iowa's offense regressing to the mean. |
| Michigan Wolverines | (-8) I haven't thought Michigan is all that good, but there aren't a lot of teams that I think deserve to be ranked right now. |
| Boston College Eagles | (NEW) BC bullied Florida State and I thought it was a much more impressive win than what Georgia Tech did. I know Florida State is not good, but Boston College has dominated a conference opponent on the road and covered against a mid/bad FCS team. I don't know anything about Duquesne but they aren't anywhere near the FCS top 25. |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | (NEW) Charlotte is a pretty good team this year (I think). Also pushed Minnesota's offensive line around all game. This might be more of an issue with Minnesota's offensive line since Rhode Island was able to do that as well for the first quarter. Either way, they went on the road and beat a P4 team, and handled a decent G6 team at home this week. |
| UNLV Rebels | (NEW) Utah Tech is not good, but 77 points is still impressive out of the go go offense. Went on the road last week and crushed the worst P4 team this season, but made sure the game was never in doubt. |
| Boise State Broncos | (-1) Boise State needs to get their special teams together and they beat Oregon. Ashton Jeanty proved that he isn't just good against MWC or G6 teams, but is good against the big boys too. He should absolutely be invited to New York at the end of the season if he is able to put up these numbers each week. Unfortunately, he doesn't only play in the G6, but on the West Coast for 4 games, and we know how the voters feel about that. |
