nw____ Ballot for 2024 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 8, 2024, 8:47 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs They’re Georgia and they didn’t play down to their opponent this week (unlike most of the rest of the SEC)
Texas Longhorns Also didn’t play down to their opponent. Erased them.
Ohio State Buckeyes Jury is still a bit out on the offense for me but it is impressive that they seemed to hit the ground running this week. Also the “jury being out” is me saying idk if they’re better than Texas/Tennessee, not that they’re bad. It’s more a question of where they should land in the top 3-4. btw, sort of wonder if we see more Sayin at some point.
Tennessee Volunteers It’s only week 2 but they are looking better and better every week. And they looked pretty awesome in week 1. Starting to look like this may be a scary team for the foreseeable future with Nico + the QB recruiting they’re doing (really they’re killing recruiting everywhere right now).
Ole Miss Rebels Didn’t play down to their opponent. Can’t say I watched but that means something this week (see Auburn, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and to some extent Bama and LSU, among others).
Miami Hurricanes Idk what to take away from them boat racing a bad UF team but they did do it on the road in a hostile environment. Destroying FAMU doesn’t really clear thing up, but I will let the rankings sort themselves out.
Alabama Crimson Tide The final score looked better than the game did. Starting to have questions about the drop off. No doubt DeBoer can get the offense going eventually. What about the secondary?
Missouri Tigers Almost put them over Bama. Again, it matters to me that they didn’t play down to their opponent this week.
USC Trojans Killed an opponent they should’ve killed. Utah State is going through a lot of crazy stuff at the moment with the coaching situation but USC still wouldn’t have shut them out last year. I’m afraid Lincoln may have made a good hire.
Penn State Nittany Lions What on earth are you doing, Penn State???? What was that? At least they didn’t lose I guess. But yikes.
Utah Utes We’ll have to see if Rising is ok, but they looked good before he left.
Oregon Ducks A lot of teams played down to their competition this week, but I actually don’t know if that’s what Oregon did (they did last week against Idaho though). I think Boise may just be pretty good. Jeanty is an animal. May be the best RB out there right now.
Nebraska Cornhuskers Raiola + that defense spells trouble for the rest of the B1G. Is Nebraska… back?
Kansas State Wildcats I think Tulane might just be pretty good, but it raised some questions about KSU. Very intrigued by Avery Johnson.
Louisville Cardinals I am not sure if this team is as good as they look yet, but I’m willing to let the rankings sort themselves out.
Boise State Broncos Imo, they still deserve to be here. A super close loss due to what seemed like questionable late-game playcalling (give Jeanty the ball on 2nd or 3rd and this may be a different story!) doesn’t invalidate their overall performance. Not sure that the QB is very good, though.
UNLV Rebels Offense!! They may be even better than they looked against Houston. Didn’t catch this one but the final score is eye-popping.
Arizona Wildcats Admittedly didn’t want this one. Seems like they played with their food a bit, though.
Clemson Tigers Idk man. Getting thumped by UGA isn’t *that* egregious, especially with how closely the defense (and only the defense) kept the first half. Handled their business this week, but that’s to be expected. Just don’t know what to make of them with this limited sample size of games. But I wouldn’t bury them just yet.
LSU Tigers The final score saved them but letting *checks notes* NICHOLLS hang around for so long kind of raises some questions about how well Brian Kelly is getting this team prepared. Maybe losing Denbrock matters more than we thought, though it could also be the multiple NFL receivers and Heisman winning QB (I mean, Denbrock’s offense didn’t light it up this week… oof). Anyway, idk yet. We’ll see how they are.
UCF Knights Need more data, frankly, but I’m really trying to reward teams who handled their business this week.
Oklahoma State Cowboys The most Oklahoma State non-conference game of all time. Good grief. Also, where is Gordon? Did Mike Gundy and staff forget he exists or is the offensive line that bad? I know he scored what turned out to be the game-winning TD, but it seems to me like they wouldn’t have been in 2OT with Arkansas if they’d given him the ball a bit more in the game. Maybe I’m an idiot though.
Boston College Eagles Maybe this team is good??? Idk. I’ll let the rankings sort themselves out. It was Duquesne but they *erased* them.
Memphis Tigers Feeling like Memphis may actually be good! That’s a good win. Didn’t watch it but will be going back to check it out. I am intrigued.
Iowa State Cyclones What a hideous game. El Assico lived up to its name. Impressed they found away against Iowa’s defense on the road, especially since ISU is dealing with so many defensive injuries. This was a Matt Campbell special here. Let’s see if it was a rivalry game blip or if they can keep it up.
