Overall Rationale: I try to base off resume, I punish teams for close games against bad teams, and I also emphasize away upsets over home upsets.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | |
| Texas Longhorns | +1, Texas got a big win over Michigan @ Michigan, unsure how good Michigan actually is at this point, but it’s significant enough for me to bump Texas to #2. Texas should be a CFP contender. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | -1 |
| Ole Miss Rebels | +1 |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | -1, somewhat weak performance against South Florida, would punish Alabama more, but South Florida might be decent this year, and most T25 teams didn’t look great this week. |
| Missouri Tigers | +3 |
| Utah Utes | +3 |
| Tennessee Volunteers | +4 |
| USC Trojans | +5 |
| Miami Hurricanes | +5 |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | -4, Moved Penn State out of the top ten because of a lackluster performance against Bowling Green. Penn State had a solid game against West Virginia, so I’m not sure why Bowling Green was such a struggle, although they do seem to play well against P5 teams in recent seasons despite being mid. |
| Oregon Ducks | -4, Moved Oregon down due to needing a last second field goal to beat Boise State, Boise State is decent, but I’m not as high on them as most, and personally feel that Oregon hasn’t performed as a top 25 team yet this season. 2-0 is 2-0, and they weren’t as terrible as they were against Idaho, but improvement is still needed. |
| Boston College Eagles | +7, This is probably my most insane ranking, but Boston College performed as expected, while teams ahead of them did not. On principle, I don’t like moving teams up the rankings who didn’t perform how I would’ve expected. Interested to see how they do against Mizzou next week. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | -1, Oklahoma is lucky that everyone in this region of the poll played like crap, barely beating a Houston team that UNLV pulverized is not a good look. They did indeed win though, but they’ll need to improve if they want to look good in the SEC |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | +2 |
| Kansas State Wildcats | 0 |
| Iowa State Cyclones | NEW, Iowa State managed to beat the Hawkeyes, and because they did it on the road, I decided to put them in my rankings. Iowa State honestly has an easy schedule this year, and I think they have an outside shot of starting the season 8-0. |
| Louisville Cardinals | NEW, Louisville hasn’t done anything fancy this season, but they haven’t tripped over themselves or had any stupid games, and a lot of teams this season have, so I’ll put them in my rankings. |
| UNLV Rebels | +6, UNLV’s manhandling of Houston looks better after Oklahoma’s struggles. Could see them being a dark horse playoff pick. They move up because of other teams moving down my rankings this week those |
| Vanderbilt Commodores | +4, Vanderbilt moves up because other teams move down, they did take care of business this week though. |
| LSU Tigers | 0 |
| Northern Illinois Huskies | NEW, Northern Illinois has to be one of the last teams I would’ve expected to rank this season. They have one of the strongest wins in the country though, overcome a questionable call to do it, and beat a team that has their own signature win. Probably a fluke, but lets see if they can make it continue |
| Clemson Tigers | 0 |
| Washington Huskies | NEW, Washington enters the rankings for the same reason Louisville did, they haven’t made any dumb mistakes. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | -19, This might be an overreaction, but what is going on with Notre Dame, only reason they stay ranked is the A&M win. They can claw their way back, but they had such an easy schedule to the CFP and blew it. Dropped teams and quick reasons are below: #11 Michigan - Looked bad against Texas and Fresno, lost to Texas, haven’t looked good all season, despite these all being home games. #18 Kansas - Lost to Illinois, who probably isn’t great this season #19 Iowa - Lost to Iowa State, should’ve not lost that game #22 Arizona - Defense looked bad against New Mexico, played lackluster against NAU, could be a decent team, but I haven’t seen it, so they wll be unranked. |
