Prof_Pie Ballot for 2023 Week 11

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 7, 2023, 9:59 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Gut and uninformed opinion

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs That game was probably closer than the Dawgs wanted. It certainly has me doubting if they can consistently play with the heavyweights. The schedule only gets harder though. This Ole Miss game is going to be season-defining for them relative to the other games they've played. For now, they beat a good Mizzou team and have earned a #1 spot for SOS. This will surely make their impending fall from grace even sweeter.
Ohio State Buckeyes Oh man, Rutgers gave them a little scare there in the first half. But the Buckeyes got it together and finished well. Sadly, for them, Rutgers is not ranked or particularly impressive this year, so they slip down to #2 with potential to be jumped by UM depending on how their Penn State game goes.
Michigan Wolverines The Spoilermakers failed to even come close to a dream come true, Honestly, given how poorly this Purdue team is performing, I don't even think Michigan had to steal signs for this game to beat them down this hard. A nice respite going into a week that will show whether all the nay-sayers and SOS-pundits were right or wrong about them.
Florida State Seminoles Pitt made my Noles do a double-take but I'll chalk it up to having a pretty injured team. Even at only 70-80% efficiency, FSU managed to put it away convincingly in the second half, in part due to the run game and a dominant D.
Washington Huskies USC REALLY wanted to win that one, but the Huskies are just that good this year.
Texas Longhorns K-state is better than people give them credit for, but Texas had no business almost losing to them. They take a slight drop for me, as I'm not seeing the consistency I expect to see from a top-10 program.
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama's stamina is shocking to me. They would not let up and when they finally had a chance, they took full advantage and ran away with it.
Oregon Ducks It really feels like Oregon is still furious about losing to the Huskies so now they're ripping apart every team they face. Poor Cal never had a chance. They're making a great case for themselves on the chance that someone above them slips.
Ole Miss Rebels TAMU is not good this year, but rivalry games (especially between coaches that hate each other) never follow the rules of rankings. That was a well-fought victory for the Rebels, but they need to show out next week, as they're primed for a fall from grace at the moment.
Penn State Nittany Lions Next week is going to be a good one. Assuming they aren't spending all practice figuring out new signs for all of the plays, the lions are hosting #2 in the nation and you better believe they are gearing up to play some of the best football of the year. Beating Maryland that convincingly after rolling Indiana the week before shows me all I needed to see to keep them in the top 10.
Louisville Cardinals The cards are having a hell of a season. I'm excited to see how they round out the season and if they'll play the Noles in the title game. As long as they don't have another Pitt mishap, I don't see why they don't make the title game.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Way to win the ultimate bragging rights y'all. What a great game. I'm sure it'll be one that's remembered for a long time. They've earned a firm top 15 spot for me, with room to climb to the top 10 depending on how those above them shake out.
Utah Utes It's clear the Utes felt they had something to prove and they did just that against ASU. They have two big statement games coming up that could rocket them to greatness.
Tennessee Volunteers A convincing trouncing of UConn sets the Vols up for an exciting game at Missouri.
Oregon State Beavers I'm still confused as to why the Beavers are ranked so high. They are still a top-15 team for me, but just barely. An Arizona loss and not destroying a mediocre Colorado team leaves me wondering how good they really are.
Missouri Tigers This team is Neck-and-Neck with the Vols right now and after seeing the Tigers put on a show against Georgia, I get the feeling that this team is better than most people think they are.
Oklahoma Sooners Oh Oklahoma. How far you've fallen. What an unceremonious way to leave the conference. It's a shame you won't be keeping the OSU game on your yearly schedule. It's okay though, in the SEC it's pretty normal to start the season over-hyped just to completely fall apart when it matters late-season. Happy trails Sooner. Happy Trails.
LSU Tigers You can point fingers and say that if you hadn't lost Daniels you would have won the game. And you'd be wrong to say that. Anemic play from the front 5, and it seemed like Alabama already knew they had your number. They were just waiting for a mistake or a slip and as soon as it happened, they left you exposed and off balance. Classic BK. I especially loved putting your QB back in. I get he was medically cleared but from how he was playing, I don't think keeping him out there was the move.
Arizona Wildcats A decent win over the Bruins at home! But if I'm a Wildcat fan, I've definitely got that Utah game circled on my calendar. There's no question for me that this team is a top 20 team, especially after the beavers win. But I'm not sure if they have the consistency on their D-line to get up to a top-15 slot by the end of the season. We'll have to see how they handle the Sanders this Saturday.
Kansas Jayhawks While the most exciting games are behind this team, they really showed out. That K-state game should be fun! In the meantime, they have to finish their domination of Texas with that T-Tech game coming up.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Ouch, that Clemson loss is rough, but I honestly view it as a quality loss. Winning in Death Valley is always hard, regardless of how high or low Clemson is ranked at the time.
Tulane Green Wave Undefeated and I'm sure it feels great. Good for Tulane
James Madison Dukes See my above comment for Tulane. Also, let them play a bowl game. Way more earned than the mediocre 6-6 teams that only get to play because they scheduled a school with a 3-year-old FB program.
Air Force Falcons Man, losing to Army in such a convincing fashion SUCKS for Air Force. It was a great story this season and it's sad to see it lose so much momentum. Regardless, they're still ranked which is pretty exciting! We'll see how the rest of this season plays out for them.
Clemson Tigers I know I know. What have they done to deserve this spot? Well, they've improved every week, and they held their own at home. They aren't a great team away from home but when they play in Death Valley, they don't mess around. I think they deserve this way more than that mediocre UNC team, and I think we're going to see some very convincing and inspired play from this team as we enter the last stretch of the season.
