Muffinnnnnnn Ballot for 2023 Week 8

Ballot Type: Human

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses matter most. At this point, if you're undefeated, you're gonna be ranked somewhere. Georgia had their one amazing game vs Kentucky, then reverted to their previous form vs Vandy. I'm telling you, if Georgia plays like they have for all but one game this year, they could have MULTIPLE losses by the end of the year, even with their relatively weak schedule. Until they show otherwise, Michigan is the #1 team and really there shouldn't be much argument about that. They have looked dominant more often than any other team. They have looked like a championship-caliber team. Washington can say a similar claim, and their win over Oregon is very good. Most of the top 8 are interchangeable (outside of #1 imo) and a lot of it will work itself out. Despite the bad loss to Pitt, Louisville should still be ahead of Notre Dame. It was a whole TWO WEEKS ago that they beat them 33-20, and they ALSO have a better record than Notre Dame. It's a bit baffling to me how far people dropped them. Not that people even really look at these things, but Pitt switched QBs and magically became like a different team. We'll see if it carries over for the rest of the year as well. A lot of Pac-12 teams have dropped out for me this week, including USC, UCLA, and Wazzu, USC is a fraud team that might be legitimately looking at an 8-4 season. Wazzu I would have some leniency, but they got run out of their own building 44-6 vs Arizona. I know Arizona may not be that bad, but you can't let anyone do that to you in your own stadium like that and stay ranked. UCLA, unlike the other two teams, actually doesn't look that bad and would probably be #26 if I extended it out one more. However, their win over Wazzu doesn't look nearly as good anymore and they have two losses. They don't really have any big chances to impress coming up, but as teams in the lower half lose, they'll be one of the first teams to slide back in. In G5 action, Tulane got a great win over Memphis, James Madison got a great win over Georgia Southern, and the biggest of them all, Air Force won the Mountain West showdown vs Wyoming, putting them in the driver's seat for a NY6 Bowl, although some other teams like Tulane are nipping at their heels. Air Force doesn't have any big chances for impressive wins coming up, but they end the year with UNLV (only loss is to Michigan) and @ Boise State, plus a potential MW Championship game vs Fresno State or Wyoming. Tulane is in a similar boat, also with not much coming up but a potential AAC Championship game vs SMU or Memphis. It could come down to a slip up game somewhere for someone. Of course, there are also tons of other G5 teams who might want a say, like SMU, Liberty, Miami (OH), Toledo, UNLV, Fresno State, Wyoming, James Madison (if eligible), Georgia State, and the whole mess of two loss SBC teams. Still though, my money would be on Air Force or Tulane.
