JetoGrov Ballot for 2023 Week 8

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 16, 2023, 3:37 p.m.

Overall Rationale: My Best attempt at a resume-based poll. Main factor in rankings is overall record then quality wins then dominance of wins then (if I have to) strength of losses. Season is already halfway through somehow, making me feel a little sad :(. Only 11 unbeatens remain!!!

Rank Team Reason
Oklahoma Sooners Feel like the win over Texas (on a neutral) is the best win anyone has at this point in the year. That win, plus an undefeated record keep the Sooners as my top ranked team.
Florida State Seminoles Perpetually feeling like I have the Noles over-ranked, but look not many teams can hold up wins as good as over Clemson (in Death Valley) and besting LSU (on a neutral). Now, I don't have Clemson nor LSU ranked...so call me a hypocrite in saying they're good wins....but nonetheless, the combo of the two gives FSU the 2nd strongest resume to this point.
Washington Huskies Here are your roses, UW. After spending the majority of the year having the Huskies ranked below average, they move into my Top 3 with The Win for the PAC-12...a tough schedule remains, and I won't jinx Penix for the Heisman (sorry, Bowers), but things are a-rollin' in Seattle.
Ohio State Buckeyes Not much to discuss on the Bucks from this past week...all focus turns to this week.
Penn State Nittany Lions See OSU reason. (But, if you're just checking in, I have PSU this high because the wins over WVU and Iowa are better than most teams as of now)
North Carolina Tar Heels Full steam ahead for a UNC v. FSU ACC title game *whispers* but it's probably going to be Duke v. FSU
Georgia Bulldogs Losing Bowers is a tough blow for this squad...though consensus thought seems to be that no team they play while he is gone will be able to take advantage. The Dawgs remain back here because they haven't beaten anyone of note.
Michigan Wolverines Much like UGA, Michigan hasn't beaten anyone of note. Unlike UGA, Michigan hasn't fooled around with any of them. Still though, I think UGA's win over UK is better than anything Michigan has to show. And while I was quick to point out two weeks ago that Michigan's resume isn't as bad as we're all making it out to be (UNLV is 5-1, BGSU beat GaTech, Rutgers is 5-2)....it's still pretty ass when you have to be like "Actually, Rutgers is feisty this year." 1 month till Michigan's season starts.
Texas Longhorns The highest of the 1-loss teams, the win @Bama is remaining impressive for the Horns
Oregon State Beavers With wins over Utah and UCLA, Oregon State firmly belongs in the Top 10 conversation. Shame they got Cam Ward-ed or they'd have an argument to be Top 5.
Alabama Crimson Tide This team is going to make the playoffs at 12-1 aren't they? This lame duck Bama team. Sometimes I love this sport, sometimes I hate it.
James Madison Dukes Awwwww man the JMU Peach Bowl against Penn State is going to be sick!! What? Huh? They still can't make a bowl???? Or win the SBC???? You're all cowards.
Louisville Cardinals On one hand, the Notre Dame win looks better. On the other, how can a team that lost to Pitt be ranked this high? Probably the ranking I feel the worst about this week. But L'Ville has to be ranked above Duke (cause ND)...and I DO think that Duke should be this high.
Duke Blue Devils Wake up. Check the scores. Another easy Duke win. Hope they can get Leonard back in time for the big games.
Ole Miss Rebels I hate talking about this team. They're so incredibly mid....the SEC is so incredibly mid....Bama and UGA will make the playoffs....UGA will three-peat....the SEC is still mid, and nobody embodies it like Ole Miss.
Air Force Falcons Cream of the crop for the MWC...fly on, Falcons!!!!
Missouri Tigers Please, Missouri. You're our best hope....take down UGA...please please please, it'd be so rad. The Kansas State win looks a little better after this past week...and demolishing Kentucky is what all the cool kids in the SEC East do.
Utah Utes Who even needs a QB? Wins over UCLA and Florida keep the Utes Top 20....I really hope they pound USC
Oregon Ducks From a power rankings stance, Oregon is probably Top 10. BUT THESE AINT POWER RANKINGS....DEEZ RESUME RANKINGS....and the wins over TxTech and Colorado are currently Oregon's best...and they both look worse after this week.
Liberty Flames Gross. Undefeated, but gross.
Iowa Hawkeyes have you spoken to your family about 11-1 Iowa?? Kings of the B10 West in it's swan song....wouldn't have it any other way.
Tennessee Volunteers Only putting them in the rankings just so I can take them out a week later. Seems like a waste of energy. Congrats on beating TxA&M I guess.
Tulane Green Wave Big win over Memphis places the Green Wave in pole position for the AAC, one QB injury away from being undefeated.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Wins over Duke and USC allow the Irish to be the only 2-loss team to make the rankings this week.....now, for your own sake, take a bye week Notre Dame!!
USC Trojans These rankings are hit or miss when it comes to being right/wrong on a team....which duh, these aren't predictive in any way. But dang, were they on the money when it came to USC....AINT PLAYED NOBODY AND GOT SPANKED. They only stay here cause of Caleb tbh.
