ruwisc Ballot for 2023 Week 8

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Oct. 15, 2023, 2:16 p.m.

Overall Rationale: This ranking is based on recursive calculation, with a starting point of the preseason /r/CFB poll and applying the results of each game simultaneously. For that reason I could mark the poll as "hybrid", but I don't put my thumb on the scale at all other than deciding how it makes sense to weight things. Earlier games are always re-evaluated based on new information. Teams are graded on their offensive and defensive performances separately, with three criteria: number of points scored or allowed, the strength of the opposing unit in that game, and whether the game was won or lost (wins receive a x4 boost automatically). Next 10: Kansas State (2.32), Liberty (2.19), Clemson (2.13), UCLA (2.08), WIsconsin (1.93), Georgia State (1.85), Troy (1.85), Oklahoma State (1.83), Florida (1.80), Miami (1.76)

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes 3.80
Oklahoma Sooners 3.78
Washington Huskies 3.76
Penn State Nittany Lions 3.71
Florida State Seminoles 3.70
Michigan Wolverines 3.58
Georgia Bulldogs 3.55 – dropping from 1 to 7 with a win is not something I expected, but the top 7 are all quite close.
North Carolina Tar Heels 3.36
Ole Miss Rebels 3.19
Texas Longhorns 3.09
Alabama Crimson Tide 3.05 – another big drop after the top 11
Oregon State Beavers 2.85
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2.74
Tennessee Volunteers 2.73
Oregon Ducks 2.71
James Madison Dukes 2.68
Utah Utes 2.56
Missouri Tigers 2.55
LSU Tigers 2.54
Duke Blue Devils 2.54
USC Trojans 2.43
Iowa Hawkeyes 2.42
Louisville Cardinals 2.36
Tulane Green Wave 2.33
Air Force Falcons 2.33
