Overall Rationale: My opinion on what the best 25 teams are based on play on the field, record, and talent. Strength of schedule and big wins are also a factor.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Michigan Wolverines | Michigan is my number one team by merit of the fact that they look complete in every facet of the game and have done their job against inferior opponents. I can understand how others would rank them lower due to schedule reasons. You could make an argument for any of the teams in my top 7 for being the number one team in my opinion. With a tight field this year, I am giving the edge to the team which has looked the most dominant altogether, albeit against poor quality teams. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Georgia's performance last week against Kentucky seemed to be an indicator that the reigning champs were back in form. After a mixed performance against vandy, I am gonna put them at 2 below Michigan. If Bowers comes back to close the season in SEC champ game/playoff, this team can beat anyone. Will be interesting to see how the UGA offense performs without him since it is sadly not a guarantee one of CFB's best players returns this season. Without Bowers in some other games this season, UGA may not be undefeated right now. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Oklahoma's performance against Texas two weeks ago could be overshadowed by the Huskies win this week, but not for me. Give them the very slight edge over the Huskies |
| Washington Huskies | Washington pulls out a classic against Oregon. I could completely understand someone arguing this is the best team in the country right now, but with such a competitive field, I personally have them at 4. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | OSU continues to take care of business. I still give them credit for the win on the road against ND, despite the ND loss to the cardinals. USC just proved that can be a tough environment to play in and the ND defense is a force. |
| Florida State Seminoles | Another team which I could see an argument for ranking higher. The only reason I have them at 6 is because of a close game against BC and the fact that I think their win over LSU is not as good as OU, Wash, and OSU's signature wins to this point. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | This may be the one I have completely wrong. PSU has played dominant all year and beaten some decent teams in the process, just not great teams. If they win on the road at OSU next week it will be a big jump for me in the polls. For now, I just see them as slightly below OSU and UofM in the BIG10. |
| Texas Longhorns | Texas beat bama and only lost in a close one to a great OU team. Best one loss team in the nation imo. |
| Oregon Ducks | Oregon, similar to Texas, should not be punished for that performance against wash. A close second best one loss team in the country behind the longhorns. |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | I understand they are undefeated, but Texas and Oregon have looked too good to put UNC above those elite teams. UNC could sneak in a playoff spot if they win the ACC, but I don't see it. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Bama, bama, bama, another close win. Still my favorite to take the SEC west but I would not be surprised to see them drop a game before the SEC title. |
| Oregon State Beavers | PAC12 stacked this year. Gonna be tough for the huskies to come out of the conference with zero losses |
| Utah Utes | see above ranking^ |
| Ole Miss Rebels | A decent team on a growing list of SEC west schools that can't beat bama this year. |
| Duke Blue Devils | Duke's only close loss against ND is nothing to be ashamed of. Would not be surprised to see them compete for the ACC title, most likely as the second best team to FSU but who knows. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Big win for the Irish, slight edge as top two loss team in the country for now. |
| LSU Tigers | LSU takes care of business this week finally managing to hold a team below 30 pts for the first time in a few weeks. LSU's offense leaves them a threat for the west, but that's their ceiling. |
| USC Trojans | This is not their only loss. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | Losing to Florida is still too icky for me to have them any higher than this for now. |
| Missouri Tigers | Good but not good enough to beat UGA in athens |
| UCLA Bruins | The last pac12 team I have in my top 25. Best year for the pac12 in a minute with legit contenders at the top. |
| Iowa Hawkeyes | I don't think this team is very good, but they only have one loss to PSU (a blowout still) so I'll give them some love. |
| Louisville Cardinals | Ouch that pitt loss is a bad look |
| Air Force Falcons | Watch out! this service academy is undefeated |
| Tulane Green Wave | big fan of this logo, like I don't know what a green wave is but i love it |
