ColombianInIowa24 Ballot for 2023 Week 6

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Oct. 1, 2023, 11:43 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Okay, now we start getting into real rankings. I have tampered a bit with the philosophy that undefeated teams should be ranked no matter what so there are a few weird choices that I don't agree with, namely Marshall, Liberty and JMU. 1-loss teams are finally allowed in, and will generally exceed most undefeated teams.

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks Impressive performances every week. Yet to be tested, though we have to wait little to see how deserving they are based on the spectacular match-up between them and the Huskies.
Texas Longhorns Texas has nothing to fear except their own top match-up against the Sooners. Impressive performance so far puts them behind only the Pac-12 elite.
Washington State Cougars BYE week had a good effect on this team. Washington State looks to firmly establish their hopes for a Pac-(1)2 championship. Next up another hopeful in UCLA.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State just keeps dominating in the end of the game. A break before continu- wait they p(l)ay UMass?
Florida State Seminoles BYE week keeps them from getting further shaken up on the road by another ACC team. I would say they should simply beat up Virginia Tech, but hey they nearly lost to Boston College for some reason. Still, BC is cursed, while VT is just plain bad.
Ohio State Buckeyes BYE week as well, after the Notre Dame win, a much needed bit of rest before facing a once again undefeated Maryland.
USC Trojans Do I despise USC? Yes. Am I big fan of defense? Yes. Do they have a defense? No. Are they still undefeated? Somehow, after squeaking past Colorado. Offense keeps them here and will likely keep them alive past Arizona, but Notre Dame looks to shut USC down in two weeks time.
Michigan Wolverines Machine like precision, but no true challenges gives Michigan this rank. The Wolverines hope to continue rolling over teams with Minnesota in the coming week.
Oklahoma Sooners My Cyclones could not get past their defense, giving Oklahoma a spectacular victory. Next up for this team, the longhorns in some Red River Rivalry.
Washington Huskies A challenge to throne will occur as Washington looks to knock off Oregon and establish themselves as #1 in the Pac-12 (and potentially the nation). A close win against Arizona keeps them limited.
Miami Hurricanes BYE week, Miami has yet to play a good team (sorry A&M, you have not convinced me of anything other than an inability to have an offense without Elko).
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia just has not looked like a good team this year against incredibly poor competition. Up next undefeated Kentucky for a spectacular match-up and test.
Liberty Flames With this bad of a schedule, I can see Liberty hanging around here all year... Unfortunate to see yet another team I despise on here. Up next... Sam Houston? At least they don't face... wait they also face Jacksonville State? Surely they don't also play... UMass and UTEP too!? Well if any team can gather a pulse maybe they don't stay here, but don't count on it.
Maryland Terrapins A travesty to put them behind Maryland, but that should say something about the SOS of Maryland so far... Up next a real challenge by Michigan.
Air Force Falcons An extremely legit team that ironically has no idea what passing means. Air Force has been incredible to watch all season as it seems to be a look into how football should be. Next up a BYE before playing another favorite of mine in Wyoming.
Kentucky Wildcats Kentucky rolls past Florida in a beat down. Up next a match for the SEC East between undefeated Georgia.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish A testament of a win against Duke. My team gave a good fight before surrendering a terrible 4th and 16 in the last minute for no good coaching reason. Prevent, prevents wins. Following that up by destroying our QB (cleanly I may add, no hate against the Irish, just poor luck of the draw), Duke plummets out with a cloudy future. Outside of issues with gas left in the tank, Notre Dame looks spectacular.
Miami (OH) RedHawks Only loss to undefeated other Miami. Looked okay, so they for some reason get the nod here.
West Virginia Mountaineers The worst looking 4-1 team, so strange that even my model has thrown its hands up and catapulted them up here.
James Madison Dukes Back to undefeated teams with the Dukes still ineligible for post-season play because the NCAA hates fun. Up next a great match-up that will decide how much we hate the NCAA with Georgia Southern.
Louisville Cardinals One of the worst looking 5-0 teams to be seen, but they continue to march onto their own version of our game inviting Notre Dame home in hopes of showing their legitimacy or possibly giving Notre Dame it's 31st consecutive regular season ACC win...
Missouri Tigers Sneaky Mizzou keeps it going in a questionable win against Vandy. Up next an angry but overrated LSU. Is Mizzou a legit SEC west contender?
North Carolina Tar Heels This team is here after a BYE week. A visit from an angry and destroyed Syracuse awaits, though the home stadium might put the Orange away early for once.
Fresno State Bulldogs Still not looking like a top team with a uneventful win against a terrible Nevada. A real test for them comes with Wyoming, sitting at #26 on my rankings and one of my favorites of the season. the Mountain West looks great!
Marshall Thundering Herd Not dominant by any mean but still undefeated. Up next a match-up against a down NC State that will determine how scared I should be of them the following week.
