JetoGrov Ballot for 2023 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 25, 2023, 5:26 p.m.

Overall Rationale: After a monumental week the "true" rankings are beginning to take form. My best attempt at a resume-based poll, done from scratch each week. My rankings are solely based on my subjective analysis of each teams' body of work to this point in the season.

Rank Team Reason
Florida State Seminoles FSU possesses 2 of the 4 best wins thus far in the CFB season. Does it matter that Clemson probably should have won? Not to me, a win in Death Valley is a win in Death Valley and if anything being able to win when you're dicking around is the mark of a high-caliber team.
Texas Longhorns Despite Bama looking very very mortal, I still think the win in Bryant-Denny is the best anyone has on the year and taking care of Baylor with no troubles showed that this Horns squad may actually be special (but like, they probably gonna lose to Kansas).
Ohio State Buckeyes It was nerve-racking...it was dirty...it was, as Ryan Day seemed a lil too quick and proud to point out (he's def not insecure, the talk has def not gotten to him), gritty...but it doesn't matter because a win is a win, and a win in South Bend against a stout ND team easily moves the Buckeyes into the top 3 resumes on the year.
Utah Utes Speaking of gritty, dirty wins. Utah keeps grinding P5 (Florida-Baylor-UCLA) teams to paste. I don't think they're one of the elite teams in the PAC-12 but I mean, how can you doubt them?
North Carolina Tar Heels I may have the heels too high, but I feel their 4 game resume is just really solid. No extraordinary win out of the bunch, and the Minnesota win looks worse after this past week, but wins over SCar, App, and Pitt place UNC in the Top 5, weirdly enough.
Penn State Nittany Lions Wins over Iowa, Illinois, and WVU are a nice collection for the Lions. The only thing keeping PSU below UNC is the fact that PSU's 4th win is against an FCS (though a good one) opponent
Duke Blue Devils That Clemson win is doing heavy lifting to have the Blue Devils this high, but Clemson looked really good this past week (though in a losing effort) and the Devils have kept churning since then.
Washington State Cougars *insert PAC 2 joke here* WSU and Cam Ward are fun as heck to watch...wins over Oregon St and Wisconsin easily make Ole Crimson a Top 10 team...could even argue they should be higher
Oregon Ducks Why would I talk about what Oregon has done, when I could mention Prime Time? Will we ever see the Buffs in the Top 25 again?
Washington Huskies AND I STARTED BLASTING. Prayers to the defenses that have to line up against this team. My #1 team from Eye Test this far, but the lack of signature win keeps the Huskies at #10 for now
Miami Hurricanes TXA&M win. All I got.
Oklahoma Sooners Is Oklahoma a defensive team? Rad! We're all waiting for Oct 7
Kansas Jayhawks Lance is a helluva coach, can they compete with Texas this week? Just a sturdy team that knows what they are and do it well. Best wins: BYU, Illinois
Louisville Cardinals I dunno, they're technically beaten 3 P5 teams...just don't look at who they are.
Missouri Tigers Solid wins over Kansas State and Memphis.
Syracuse Orange I have nothing to say, this is probably the most egregious team placement I have this week. But I guess they won @Purdue
Fresno State Bulldogs Does your team have 2 P5 road wins??? Well Fresno State does. Only reason I have them below Cuse is bc of common opponent Purdue
Notre Dame Fighting Irish THE FIRST TEAM WITH A LOSS TO BE RANKED THIS YEAR!!! The win @NCSt is still impressive, the entire game against Ohio State was impressive, only 1 second (and 1 man, oof) away from being a Top 3 team right now. Just a very solid team.
Maryland Terrapins The Terps sneak into the rankings after a win @MSU.
USC Trojans A really good team with a really weak resume to this point, but they at least have two conference wins (and one of those on the road)
Georgia Bulldogs I don't care UGA, I don't. Your schedule sucks, we all know it, you know it. You haven't played a road game yet. You're only ranked cause everyone else also kind of sucks.
Michigan Wolverines Same exact shit as UGA. Haven't played anyone, haven't played a road game, haven't even woken up yet. Enjoy your 2.5 months of scrimmages, Michigan.
LSU Tigers I don't believe it, another 1-loss team getting into the rankings! Their wins over MissState and Arkansas don't really amount to much, but like who else am I going to rank? Liberty??? (*vomits*)
Kentucky Wildcats Sure. Whatever.
Air Force Falcons Grinding out some dubs, I have a MWC fetish, not sorry.
