CaptainScuttlebottom Ballot for 2023 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 25, 2023, 5:56 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Still haven't had time to fix my computer poll, so I'm still going off vibes.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Back to back champs get the benefit of the doubt in my book
Washington Huskies Maybe the best resume so far
Ohio State Buckeyes I am thinking of OSU vs. ND as still being a top-10 matchup at the end of the season
Texas Longhorns I would be fine putting them anywhere from #2 to #6 honestly
Penn State Nittany Lions They look like maybe the scariest team in the Big 10, I put them under OSU because OSU has a better win now.
Florida State Seminoles Not much to say, they were lucky to beat Clemson and not drop a lot. If they lose a game and aren't undefeated anymore, the BC game and this one will weigh them down pretty heavily
Michigan Wolverines They kind of accidentally fell, but it's more like they just got passed and stood still. The Rutgers game didn't really change my estimation of them at all and tbh I haven't watched them enough to know anything other than "real good team"
Oregon Ducks They looked awesome vs. Colorado but it was clear that CU's defensive line was just not up to the task, so I feel like I learned more about them than Oregon. Holding CU to a single garbage time TD is impressive though, I still think they're a pretty capable offense
Utah Utes Not a huge win but kind of another reminder of how good their defense is.
USC Trojans Not a great showing against ASU but they pulled away at the end, as they are wont to do.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish It sucks they had to fall this far, it's just crowded up there still. I think some of the teams above will shake out and they'll end up back in the top 10 pretty quick.
Washington State Cougars It's wild how many other PAC-12 teams are above them still
Duke Blue Devils Continuing to pass the eye test
Alabama Crimson Tide I expected them to look a little better than they did vs. Ole Miss actually
Miami Hurricanes Not much to say, haven't watched them enough to know much besides "real good team"
Oregon State Beavers Like ND, I wish I didn't have to drop them so far for losing a close game to a great team.
Kansas Jayhawks Scrappy win against BYU that again showed their flaws on defense and highlighted their amazing offense. Best offense in the Big 12 top to bottom IMO.
Oklahoma Sooners I really love the way the defense is looking, it's night and day from last year. The offense just disappears for long stretches though, and that's gonna lose some games eventually.
LSU Tigers I think Arkansas is a solid win even though I expected LSU to win by more
North Carolina Tar Heels Mostly ranking them here bc of their QB
Florida Gators The loss to the Utes looks like less of a concern with each passing week
Clemson Tigers They might not deserve to be ranked at this point, but they've showed flashes of getting it together and I think they could still potentially compete for the conference title
Kansas State Wildcats The Missouri loss was kinda flukey and I'm not holding it against them too much.
UCLA Bruins They didn't get blown out by Utah!
Fresno State Bulldogs Honestly just following the crowd on this one
