CallMeTheKing Ballot for 2023 Week 5

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Sept. 24, 2023, 1:26 p.m.

Overall Rationale: ------ TERR (Transitive Extrapolated Round Robin) Rankings ------ These rankings are generated by simulating a round robin schedule between all 133 FBS teams. If two teams have played, then the winner of that game is given a win for that matchup in the TERR standings and the loser is given a loss. If two teams have not played, then we look for the number of first-degree transitive wins the Home Team has over the Away Team and vice versa: the team with more first-degree transitive wins over the other is given a win in the TERR standings and the other team is given a loss. If the Home and Away Teams have either no first-degree transitive wins over the other, or an equal number over each other, then we move onto second-degree transitive wins, then third-degree wins, then fourth-degree, etc. If neither team has any degree of transitive wins over the other, then it is recorded as a tie in the TERR rankings. ------ Each team's TERR records are displayed as (#Wins-#Losses-#Ties) and are meant to be interpreted as communicating the number of FBS teams we know a team is better than, the number of FBS teams we know a team is worse than, and the number of FBS teams we can't compare that particular team to yet. The ranking is generated by calculating win percentages based on the TERR records. To settle tiebreaks, we run the TERR methodology on all tied teams (i.e. create a mini round robin for tied teams with standings based on transitive wins over other tied teams).
