FlashSpider-man Ballot for 2023 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 24, 2023, 10:49 a.m.

Overall Rationale: This is based on my opinion mostly and what I see. I only watch so many games so a lot is based on box score. I grew up on the west coast so I may have some Pac 12 bias. I go to TAMU, for any bias that may cause, and grew up an ASU fan. Feel free to message me if you disagree about any rankings. I'd love to discuss. This is my first time doing this. I got annoyed by FSU ranking last week and felt the need to join. I'll try to keep somewhat to recent rankings but I have my own opinions. Most of what I put is based on results so far, not expected talent. Also, P5 bias cause I don't know much about g5. And remember, it is early in the season. Due to this, these teams are hard to rank and variety should be expected, imo.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs
Michigan Wolverines
Texas Longhorns :( pls lose
Ohio State Buckeyes
Washington Huskies They have taken care of business. They look good. I think they are a really good team, though maybe it's just them having greater experience early season. I've been high on them coming in to the season, and may be looking for an excuse to bump them up a couple more.
Penn State Nittany Lions
Utah Utes A very injured Utah team nut a good UCLA team. And I'm already higher on Utah than most.
Oregon Ducks Haha. Side note for CU: they did beat a good TCU team but after going to overtime against Colorado State and being spanked by UO, I need to see them beat another good opponent to earn a ranking.
USC Trojans Tbh I'm just not as high on them as most people.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Quality losses are weird and a hard stat to rank. I feel I may be overrating ND, which a lot of people do and is annoying, but it was a really close game with a good Ohio State team. I don't like putting them ahead of good undefeated teams but Saturday will answer if they deserve it or not. I'm really looking forward to that game.
Alabama Crimson Tide Another 1 loss team way too high. But I really thought Ole Miss was gonna win and instead they won by multiple scores. Maybe we all underestimated Saban.
North Carolina Tar Heels
Duke Blue Devils
Washington State Cougars Good win over Oregon State. While it shows being a 3 point win, they led by double digits for a long time. Oregon State scored late, in a situation where they had to onside it, to cut it to one posession.
Oklahoma Sooners
Florida State Seminoles I know, I know, they are undefeated and I out them at 16. The team that has been ranked 4 in ap last week. But the reason I joined this as a provisional voter is because I find them to be overly ranked. In 4 games, they have almost lost to a bad team, and went to overtime with a decent team. Clemson may be pretty good but they are currently a .500 who hasn't done much. So sure, the LSU win was really strong, but I don't believe one good win is greater than 2 bad ones. They could easily prove me wrong and I realize this is prob my most divisive ranking. I know good teams find ways to win games on bad days, and they have won. If they keep winning it will prove me wrong. But with such a small sample size, it stands out.
Miami Hurricanes As sad as I am to say this, just a reminder that A&M hasn't beaten anyone except teams with garbage qbs. And that is Miami's only p5 win. Honestly, maybe I should move them down?
LSU Tigers You barely beat Arkansas? Really? Wait, no, I think I just doomed my team on Saturday by disrespecting Arkansas...
Ole Miss Rebels With how confused I am about Bama, ranking these guys is weird too. Ultimately, they didn't look good and a Bama team that looked vulnerable beat them by multiple possessions.
UCLA Bruins Tough loss to grade. On one hand, UU is a really good team and it was a one possession game. On the other hand, UU was very injured. I'm going to lean on the former for this ranking, but we'll have to wait and see. Edit: So apparently no one else is ranking UCLA and this is a weird opinion. Once again, I am high on Utah and, despite the score, I think this game was closer than the Oregon State one. I think this loss looks better than the Oregon State loss, as it was a closer game against a better team. Therefore, UCLA should be ranking if Oregon State is ranked. If you disagree, @ me your reasons why. I believe my reddit username should be displayed.
Oregon State Beavers As mentioned in the Wazzu blurb, it was a late touchdown after being down multiple possessions for a while that made it so close. Definitely better to score there, yes, but it doesn't detract from a bad result.
Florida Gators Tennessee may be ranked tomorrow still. But I don't get why. They haven't done anything. But it works to Florida's benefit.
Missouri Tigers Closer than it should have been against Memphis but a win. Undefeated on the season with the thrilling with against K State.
Kansas Jayhawks I mean, they are undefeated on the year. I already discussed why I'm not ranking CU or Tennessee. So it was either them, Maryland, or UK. I went with them. Rooting hard for them on Saturday, though they'll likely get bounced from this list.
Maryland Terrapins I felt a need to put another undefeated p5 team here. Random between them and UK. I will say, I considered K State as well, and TCU (yes, I think they should be ranked over CU. CU is getting 8th in the Pac, mark my words). But I decided going with an undefeated team made the most sense.
