SleepsWithBlindsOpen Ballot for 2023 Week 5

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Sept. 24, 2023, 10:14 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Testing an algorithm that awards/subtracts points based on wins and losses in accordance with difficulty of opponent. Ties are broken by human selection. The resulting poll gives a number of "Well they ain't play nobody Pawllll" placements early in the season.

Rank Team Reason
North Carolina Tar Heels Started the season with wins against an SEC team, BIG team, and ACC team and are rightfully rewarded for a tough schedule.
Florida State Seminoles Wins against LSU, Clemson, and BC place the Noles in 2nd.
Utah Utes Two P5 out of conference wins to start the season, but the FCS cupcake game allows UNC and FSU to jump them.
Penn State Nittany Lions Two conference wins plus the victory against WVU puts the Nittany Lions at the 4 spot
Louisville Cardinals Flying under the radar, but currently 4-0 with 3 P5 wins
Washington Huskies Solid performance so far this year 2-0 verse P5 teams and no FCS bye week.
Texas Longhorns Top B12 team of the list. Went into Tuscaloosa and left with an impressive victory, then took care of business against Baylor and their G5 opponents.
Fresno State Bulldogs Top G5 team on the list, bolstered by their wins against Purdue and Arizona State
USC Trojans Two conference wins help the Trojans settle in at the 9 spot.
Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State's win against Notre Dame is the centerpiece to their top 10 ranking.
Oregon Ducks Tied for 10th with the Buckeyes, but edged out by OSU in the eye of the pollster
Duke Blue Devils Another strong ACC team with wins against Clemson and Northwestern.
Washington State Cougars 2PAC Champion Washington State has performed well this year, aided by their win against Wisconsin
Kansas Jayhawks Good OOC win against Illinois and solid W against BYU to start the conference schedule.
Maryland Terrapins Wins against UVA and Michigan State allow Maryland to slide into 15.
Colorado Buffaloes Top 1 loss team. Their two early season OOC wins balance the beatdown by the Ducks
Michigan Wolverines Sometimes being undefeated is what it takes. 3 G5 wins and a conference opener against Rutgers aren't the most impressive, but the algorithm will take it.
Oklahoma Sooners Similar story to Michigan, but a solid win against Cincy solidifies them at 18.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights Good wins against Northwestern and VT allow Rutgers to settle at 19 after their loss to Michigan
Missouri Tigers Top SEC team on the rankings. The SEC in general this season has either shirked playing other P5 teams or lost to them. Missouri proudly took on Kansas State and won.
Miami Hurricanes Their in against the Cult from College Station propels Miami into the top 25
Syracuse Orange Undefeated with a good win against Purdue.
James Madison Dukes Strong start to the season headlined by their win against an admittedly weak UVA team
West Virginia Mountaineers Big wins against Pitt and and Texas Tech help buoy the loss to Penn State
Georgia Bulldogs Are the Bulldogs actually the 25th best team? Probably not, but the algorithm does not reward you for playing UT-Martin, Ball State, and UAB in your first 4 games.
