Overall Rationale: Best attempt at resume (subjectively assessed by me) based poll construction
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | UGA's win over Oregon is stacking up better and better, and since I have Oregon's resume ranked higher than Alabama's then UGA moves ahead of UT. Plus when comparing performances vs UF, UGA smacked them around much more than UT was able to. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | Last week I said UT has the best win in the country (over Bama). But with another week to process, resume-wise the Ducks have a better collection of wins (UCLA most notably) than the tide. The UGA v. UT battle for the top will work itself out this week though of course. |
| TCU Horned Frogs | TCU is still winning in the gauntlet of the Big 12, and is thus still deserving of the #3 ranking. |
| Clemson Tigers | Clemson's narrow win over Wake doesn't look as good as last week; but their wins over NC State, Florida State, and Cuse are still a better collection than either of the B1G powers. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | It was sweaty, but OSU's win over Penn State moves them past the Wolverines this week and finally gives them a notable win. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Michigan slides back a spot after OSU joined the "Beaten-Penn St" club. Additionally, the Buckeyes handled Sparty better than UM this past week. All will work out 11/26 though. |
| Oregon Ducks | I don't think Oregon is better than Alabama. But what's Bama's best win? Texas? Arkansas? Oregon's win over UCLA is better than anything Bama has so here it is. |
| UCLA Bruins | UCLA's win over Utah is what puts them here; a better win than any Bama has to offer. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Bama is obviously better than the 9th team in the country, but their resume just doesn't pop with any wins. Beating Ole Miss in a few weeks would move them past the Pac 12 teams currently slotted ahead of them. |
| USC Trojans | Speaking of a team with no "pop" wins. Their loss is better (man do I HATE comparing losses) than any of the remaining 1-lossers, so USC goes here. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | Like congrats on the win vs A&M. Still kind of think there's a decent shot that Ole Miss ends up 8-4, but as things stand they have (IMO) the 11th best resume in the land. |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | UNC is starting to look like the only remaining hurdle for Clemson in the ACC. It's impressive how they've avoided all the good teams in the ACC so far. |
| Illinois Fighting Illini | I think Illinois's defense is legit. They also play in the B1G West (the worst P5 division), so they may just never face actual offenses. Regardless, they look pretty good but the loss to Indiana holds them back. |
| Liberty Flames | Liberty sits as the highest ranked non-P5 team due to their win over USM (weirdly enough). While the team below them (Tulane) boasts the better win, Tulane was beaten by USM earlier in the season. |
| Tulane Green Wave | Tulane's season is starting to show real NY6 potential (sorry, I really don't want to jinx the baja blasts). Their win over KSU is looking better and better. |
| Kansas State Wildcats | 48-0!!! Holy smokes I love Deuce Vaughn. |
| LSU Tigers | LSU had the week off, but this team is one screwy game away from only having one loss to a top 2 team in the nation. Their win over UF places them ahead of the Utes. |
| Utah Utes | Utah didn't look incredible against WAZZU, but their win over USC and general tough demeanor is enough for them to be 18. |
| Coastal Carolina Chanticleers | The lowest of the 1-loss teams. The chickens lone loss is an eye sore, but they still looked good this past week against Marshall. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | 0-48!!! Ouch. Lucky for the pokes, I love the Big 12 and still value their wins over TXTECH, Texas, and Baylor more than any wins the remaining teams have. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | They almost had it, as is often the story in the Franklin-era, but the wheels fell off in the final quarter. PSU has the best losses (ugh) of any 2-loss team, but no real standout win. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds in State College after losses to the two teams that PSU wants to be seen as equal with. |
| Syracuse Orange | Maybe Notre Dame should join the ACC, they sure love beating its teams. Cuse land here because of decent wins, and understandable losses. |
| Oregon State Beavers | Welcome to the Top 25 Beavs!!! Another team with quality losses (ugh). ORSTATE doesn't have a "pop" win, but they're more than deserving of a Top 25 ranking. |
| Wake Forest Demon Deacons | Wake, baby, I believed in you. That 3Q was a fever dream. |
| NC State Wolfpack | The wolf pack are fine, though that VaTech game was too close for a good team. The post-Leary era will be interesting, but for now they have a Top 25 resume. Apologies to Troy who was the first team out this week. |
