Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Tennessee Volunteers | |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | |
| Georgia Bulldogs | |
| Michigan Wolverines | |
| Clemson Tigers | If Clemson wins out (which they should, barring Notre Dame deciding that they will be good Notre Dame next weekend), they will be in the playoffs. This might be unfortunate, because I don't think they are particularly close to the top 4 teams on this list + Alabama. The offense just isn't consistent enough for me to think they have good chances against the other likely playoff teams. |
| TCU Horned Frogs | I don't think TCU is a favorite on a neutral field vs Alabama or Oregon, but they are undefeated. However, their bevy of come from behind wins will eventually bite them, given how deep the Big 12 is. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | |
| Oregon Ducks | |
| UCLA Bruins | I have UCLA over USC due to much better best wins (Utah and Washington vs WSU and OSU). |
| USC Trojans | |
| Ole Miss Rebels | |
| Utah Utes | |
| Illinois Fighting Illini | Not fully convinced that Illinois is a top 15 team (I would imagine 3 or 4 of the five teams immediately behind them would win at a neutral site), but 1 loss is 1 loss |
| LSU Tigers | The loss to Tennessee doesn't look as bad as it did a few weeks ago, and they have quality wins over the two Mississippi schools. They actually have a good chance at home vs a Bama team that has struggled on the road for the past 2 years (unless we get Big Game Brian Kelly) |
| Kansas State Wildcats | |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | Like Illinois, I'm even more unconvinced of UNC's legitimacy, but they keep finding ways to win. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | They were competitive with OSU for most of the game, but Sean Clifford and the defense couldn't get it done in the 4th quarter. I'd suspect Penn State is a 9-3 team this year that happens to play two of four best teams in the country. They should be favored for every game going forward and should go 10-2 with a chance at a NY6, pending Illinois' results, but we've gotten a James Franklin Special every year and I don't think that will change this year. |
| Syracuse Orange | I don't get Notre Dame, so consequently, I don't get where to rank Syracuse after their loss to Notre Dame. |
| Wake Forest Demon Deacons | |
| Tulane Green Wave | |
| Oregon State Beavers | |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | Horrible loss, but they still have a couple of decent wins and are a power five team with < 3 losses. |
| Maryland Terrapins | I don't think Maryland is a top 25 team with Taulia, but I couldn't find any other teams that are currently more deserving, so they're here for now, I guess. |
| Liberty Flames | |
| NC State Wolfpack | I couldn't find a team that was clearly more deserving than NC State for this spot. However, this is a bad football team without Devin Leary and they will almost certainly drop out sooner rather than later. |
