bretticus33 Ballot for 2021 Week 4

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 20, 2021, 12:57 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Still the top team in the country, but they showed they are vulnerable and can drop a game.  Get an easy W coming up before Ole Miss comes to town.
Georgia Bulldogs Their defense was already great but they appear to have their offense in sync too.
Iowa Hawkeyes The defense is legit and maybe the best in the country.  Offense is decent but I would have liked to see more this past weekend.  Still one of the best teams in the country.
Oregon Ducks Didn't learn anything we already didn't know on Saturday.  A bit of concern for Anthony Brown after leaving at halftime.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State will be challenging for the Big 10 title.  Their defense is solid and I think the offense will get better.  Already have two big wins on the resume over Wisconsin and Auburn.
Cincinnati Bearcats Slow start, but ended up with a comfortable 2 possession win over a solid Indiana team.  They get to rest up before their chance to build up their resume against Notre Dame.
Texas A&M Aggies This was better from A&M, granted it was against one of the worst FBS teams.  We'll learn more about A&M this weekend when they take on ranked Arkansas in Fayetteville.
Oklahoma Sooners There's too much talent on the team for them to be in close games like they have been.  Funny enough, it's the defense that has been the star unit as the offense has been inconsistent and Rattler has possibly played himself out of Heisman contention.
Florida Gators It's not a far drop, but the showing Florida had against Alabama proved to me they're still worthy of a top 10 spot for at least another week.  I wouldn't at all be surprised if Florida and Alabama are playing for a CFP spot again in November and Florida tops Bama for that spot.
Clemson Tigers Clemson's defense is still very good, but that offense is really struggling.  Luckily, the ACC is weak but against better teams than Georgia Tech, Clemson might pick up a CFP-busting loss if they don't improve.
Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State is having a lot of issues with consistency on offense and their defense remains a big concern.  If Ryan Day can help the team find consistency and get the defense performing better, this is a top 5 team in terms of talent.
Ole Miss Rebels Ole Miss might very well have the best offense in the country, and their defense looks improved but there's also still a lot of room for improvement.   They have the week off but then it's on to Tuscaloosa for their biggest test of the season.
Iowa State Cyclones Iowa State can still be a top 10 team and they'll have chances to show it, but beating UNLV doesn't show much.  Kudos to Iowa State for making the trip out west for a G5 non-con game though.
North Carolina Tar Heels I'm still higher than most on UNC, mostly because their offense is so electric and explosive.  After that debacle against Virginia Tech, they've been lighting it up.  However their defense didn't look good against Virginia and that is a concern.
BYU Cougars All of a sudden the Cougars are back in the top 15 thanks to a couple big wins in back-to-back weeks over Utah and ASU.  Jaren Hall looked to get hurt but it sounds like he'll be fine.  The defense has been very impressive in particular.
Wisconsin Badgers The Badgers had the week off but host Notre Dame this weekend.  For their slim CFP hopes, this is a must-win game.  Their run game and defense are good as always, but Mertz will be under the microscope after his Penn State performance.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers CC is still a very good team, but Buffalo gave them a real challenge that wasn't expected.  In a tough Sun Belt conference, the Chanitcleers would want to see better defense, especially against the run.
Michigan State Spartans Is MSU back for reals?  They demolished a very overrated Miami team, but they are playing well in all phases of the game.  Look for Sparty to be a Big 10 dark horse.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Notre Dame is a top 25 team, but where they've been getting love in the AP poll is way too high.  They played their best overall game against Purdue but they'll need to keep improving to keep their place.
Michigan Wolverines Michigan took care of business against NIU, but their real test comes up now in the form of undefeated Rutgers.  Jokes aside, the defense is looking strong and the Wolverines are running the ball extremely well.  I don't think they'll be a Big 10 challenger, but they're still looking improved upon last season.
Arkansas Razorbacks Arkansas took care of business in a quasi-bye week.  Compared to the Chad Morris days, this looks like a completely different team.  Arkansas can really show they're the real deal when the Aggies come to town.
Kansas State Wildcats Nevada is no pushover, but KSU has a strong defense and a really good rushing attack led by Deuce as shown on Saturday.  Good luck to Big 12 defenses this season.
Fresno State Bulldogs Fresno State has to be the MWC favorites at this point.  Jake Haener has thrown himself, literally, into Heisman talks after his UCLA heroics and he's not alone as FSU is very talented.  Had they beaten Oregon early on, they could be a top 15, top 10 team.  Haener's health is a concern though.
Auburn Tigers Close loss against Penn State on the road, but I still think Auburn is a top 25 team.  However, Bo Nix is the biggest problem with the team.
San Diego State Aztecs SDSU has quietly been looking pretty dang good to start the season.  Two wins back-to-back over Pac-12 teams and the Aztecs are staking their claim to be considered for MWC contention.
