Overall Rationale: Human ballot while my computer model gathers data. While the computer gathers data, I try to vote in a way I would expect my computer to rank the teams, if it had a few more weeks of data including the likely outcomes of upcoming scheduled games. I might still decide to ignore the computer all season, depending on how it compares a (hypothetically) 5-0 Pac-12 team against a (hypothetically) 9-3 Sun Belt team. My computer gives teams who have not yet played a game AND have not scheduled any team who has already played a game, a score of 0. Since the B1G, Pac-12, Mountain West, and MAC are playing conference-only schedules starting in mid-October, this means B1G, PAC-12, MWC, AND MAC TEAMS ARE NOT IN MY BALLOT, DESPITE THEM SHOWING UP IN THE AP POLL. I have no reasonable way to rank them right now. I acknowledge that my ballot this week will likely look awful, because some voters will be including B1G, Pac-12, and even Mountain West teams. The vote on whether to include teams who are not yet playing, but have scheduled games, was extremely close, and I voted to exclude those teams explicitly because my computer scores them at 0. Because I joined this poll as a computer ballot, I will still try to approximate what I believe my computer would do when ranking teams myself.
