hokies220 Ballot for 2019 Week 9

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Oct. 20, 2019, 12:15 p.m.

Overall Rationale: I feel like I'm letting in too much human bias because just going by my point system leads to some weird results. Once again just proves how there isn't a perfect way to rank teams. Should Texas be a top 15 team based purely by the way my poll is set up or should their terrible performance against Kansas drop them way down. I'm choosing human and subjective bias for parts of this poll. As always I'll never have two teams from the same conference in my top 4 those results will always be settled during the season.

Rank Team Reason
LSU Tigers Kinda wanted to drop them to #2 for Texas blowing ass against Kansas. But still the only team with two ranked wins right now. Also, Burrow is kinda good at football.
Ohio State Buckeyes Cincy is a really good win and Indiana is looking decent the rest of the schedule hasn't been great so far, but it doesn't matter with how thoroughly OSU has been handling business.
Clemson Tigers Louisville looked much improved and still lost by 35. Clemson is dangerous when they remember who they are.
Oklahoma Sooners Another year another WVU beat down. Had Dicker missed that fg they'd probably call this season a success no matter what else happens.
Penn State Nittany Lions A solid win against Michigan, even if it got a little close. They've got a good win with pitt as well. MSU, Minnesota, and OSU all still on the schedule.
Alabama Crimson Tide You're probably thinking "6th!?" but really the schedule is trash they only have two good teams on it and haven't played either yet. Still Bama though which means of course they're undefeated and of course I'd pick Saban to beat any other team with a month of prep on a neutral field so they'll probably win it all anyways calm down.
Florida Gators Survived another upset bid from the Cocks, ahead of Auburn because they beat Auburn.
Auburn Tigers Beating Arkansas by 40 is like beating up a special needs kid that shouldn't even be in your class, but has just been there forever thinking they're one of the guys.
Oregon Ducks Came from behind to beat their arch rival on the road. Barring an apocalyptic style collapse the Ducks have won the division and are likely getting USC/Utah in the CCG.
Wisconsin Badgers I know Illinois has looked competent at times this season but still wtf, Badgers? At least Taylor became the fastest to 5000 yards so that's cool. A win next week and they're right back in the CFP discussion.
Baylor Bears Really impressed me going on the road and battling back from double digits down in Stillwater to win by three possessions.
Minnesota Golden Gophers Bit of a slow start and really choking the life out of Rutgers isn't going to tel much about a team. But hey here they are one of the last ten undefeated teams.
SMU Mustangs Handled Temple no problem, but now a classic trap game against Houston before they play Memphis. Also still play at Navy and against Tulane so it's not getting any easier.
Georgia Bulldogs A shutout is always nice I guess?
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Not as high as I'd like them, but gotta respect H2H and Georgia just hasn't looked that great.
Cincinnati Bearcats Defense really sealed the win against Tulsa.
Utah Utes Defense is suffocating, if the Pac-12 championship game comes down to them and Oregon it might be another 10-3 shootout..USC still controls their own destiny though.
Michigan Wolverines Really hard fought game, didn't drop far.
Appalachian State Mountaineers Destroyed the lesser UL school. App's chances of making the Cotton Bowl just jumped up thanks to BYU.
Boise State Broncos A close loss on the road to BYU isn't that bad IMO, BYU is one of those teams that can hang with just about anyone on any given Saturday and also lose to just about anyone on any given Saturday see Toledo and USF
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Wasn't pretty at all, but still got the W. An Orange Bowl appearance isn't that far fetched for this Wake team.
Memphis Tigers Nice bounceback demolition of Tulane, ahead of Navy and UCF as the last AAC team in for H2H and better record respectively.
Iowa Hawkeyes Kinda wanted to put ISU here for turning it around and both having 'good' losses, but Iowa State handed Iowa this spot when they blew that game. Take it up with your early season selves, Cyclones.
San Diego State Aztecs Only loss on the season is by 6 points to Utah State. Quietly handling business.
Texas Longhorns The only reason I kept Texas ranked is because they have better losses/more points than these other teams I considered. ISU, UCF, ASU, Navy, LT, UVA, Air Force, and pitt.
