crimsonlaw Ballot for 2019 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 20, 2019, 7:45 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Purely human. Purely my best effort to put the teams in a ranking of where I believe they should be ranked right now. Except for Clemson. The defending champs get to hold the top spot until beaten (yes, I'm one of those pricks).

Rank Team Reason
Clemson Tigers Champs gonna stay on top until they lose. Though they aren't playing like the #1 team. But I'm damn stubborn about this!
LSU Tigers LSU is just going to keep smashing through people. Auburn and Alabama, the Tigers' next two games, are going to be great shows.
Ohio State Buckeyes So long as we are talking about teams smashing through their schedule, the Buckeyes should be next on this list. Even after their stunning loss, the Badgers will be a tough wall to smash through this weekend.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State looked really good against Michigan, then had to hold on by their fingernails to win the game. The Nittany Lions have probably been the least impressive of the undefeated teams, but they are scrappy as hell. And I kind of love teams like they.
Oklahoma Sooners Only Texas has challenged this team the entire season. The Sooners are scary-good on offense and fun to watch all the ways they can score.
Alabama Crimson Tide Oh Tua! Bama's passing game was the only elite unit on this squad, and now Tua's injured again. Crimson Tide fans will be praying for his ankle to heal before the LSU game.
Oregon Ducks The Ducks are on a six-game winning streak. And they just went to Washington and came out with the victory. And their one loss came with less than ten seconds left on the clock against Auburn.
Auburn Tigers Auburn never looks like a dominate team, but they sure don't seem to lose much. Their match against LSU this weekend should be appointment football.
Utah Utes They just beat a good Arizona State team and have looked like a really outstanding team but for their loss to USC. They seem to have a semi-easy schedule the rest of the way too.
Wisconsin Badgers Ugh what a bad loss. It was a fluke, right? Yes, but will it have an effect on their next game against Ohio State?
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia did not bounce back from that South Carolina loss like I would have hoped. Going scoreless against Kentucky in the first-half this week was very disappointing to see. Something needs to be done to right the ship in Athens and quick.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish I haven't loved the Irish this year, but they are a good little team that doesn't lose. If they can get by Michigan, they should be able to finish out their schedule without any more stumbles.
Baylor Bears I feel like Baylor is rather underrated. Including by me. They should be 9-0 by the time they face Oklahoma and Texas at the end of the season.
Florida Gators I respect Florida's record, but they are not a top-10 team in my opinion. They've got a very good defense, but their offense is lacking.
SMU Mustangs I think the AAC has multiple talented teams, and SMU being undefeated is impressive. I think they could be a top-10 team if they go undefeated this season.
Minnesota Golden Gophers An undefeated team in a Power 5? Yes, but their schedule is so backloaded we are all waiting for the floor to fall out on this team.
Cincinnati Bearcats Their only loss has been at the hands of Ohio State. I think we are looking at a really good Bearcats team.
Memphis Tigers Memphis is less than a field goal away from being undefeated.Another really good team in an underrated conference.
Texas Longhorns If Texas had a slightly better defense, they may have been able to beat LSU or Oklahoma. This is a good team with a really big flaw.
Iowa Hawkeyes A very good two-loss team, and those two loses were squeakers. Iowa can still be a tough out for anyone that has to face them.
Iowa State Cyclones The Cyclones are a tough little team to face. Two loses by a total of 3 points. They have a tough closing schedule, but they have been representing themselves well so far this season.
Appalachian State Mountaineers The toast of CUSA just keeps winning. So they just keep moving up the charts.
Boise State Broncos And BYU strikes again. Boise is better than BYU. No reason for this team to lose this week.
San Diego State Aztecs They beat UCLA earlier in this season and have been holding their own since then. I don't love this team, but they get the job done.
Navy Midshipmen Only one loss and that's to Memphis. I'll always give love to the service academies when I can.
