theb52 Ballot for 2019 Week 7

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Oct. 7, 2019, 12:19 a.m.

Overall Rationale: This is a 100% computer poll based solely on resume`. Historically it's real rough in the beginning (small resume`s), but by the time the CFP polls come out, it has learned who actually deserves to be ranked. **How it works** All 130 FBS teams start out tied. Each team is ranked "Best" (1 is the best, 130 is worst) and "Worst" (1 is worst, 130 is the best). If a team beats their opponent, the positive "Worst" rank is averaged into the team's points to determine the team's new rank. If a team loses to their opponent, the negative "Best" rank is averaged into the team's points to determine the team's new rank. On top of that, a team's points change every week based on their wins and losses AND the wins and losses of each of their played opponents. For example, Clemson was ranked as the 8th "Best" or 123rd "Worst" team last week, while Syracuse was ranked the 59th "Best" or 72nd "Worst" Team. Clemson won, so they got +72 (Syracuse's positive "Worst" ranking) averaged into their points. Syracuse lost, so they got -8 (Clemson's negative "Best" ranking) averaged into their points. This system doesn't punish Syracuse too hard for losing to a good team, and moderately rewards Clemson for beating a mediocre team. However if Syracuse wins more games, its points will increase, as will Clemson's points for beating them. On the other side, Temple (ranked 53rd "Best or 78th "Worst) beat Maryland (ranked 88th "Best" or 43th "Worst), so Temple got +43 averaged into their points and Maryland got -53 averaged into their points.  Check out the crazy spreadsheet work here: <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DJwt6zE8EMaj_Ik7Ggtnm-jZxUmaq7HKf2MwyEbIEIQ/edit?usp=sharing> **FIRST FIVE OUT** Iowa 31.100, Virginia 30.900, Penn State 30.600, Missouri 30.000, Minnesota 29.800
