Ballot Type: Human

Overall Rationale: Top 4 seeds are given to teams that have shown the best performance in conjunction with projected chance of making the CFP. The next 10 are those who are notable enough for discussion and eligible for NY6. Note: The rest of the top 10 are given to 1 G5 team, the P5 runner-ups, and any applicable independent schools. If any of those teams are not worthy of the ranking, they will go down to the next tier in lieu of a more deserving team. The remaining 11 are those who have been and should be performing amazing in the season. There is no bias at all (i.e., conference affiliation, athletes, etc. are not used - just who is the best in order in my opinion). As such, no statistical methods are used other than references that may contain data, such as ESPN FPI and Wikipedia.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Ohio State Buckeyes | The only 6-0 team who blew out every single opponent they faced, and that's not even considering their SoS. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Bye |
| Clemson Tigers | Bye |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Very brief rough start against Kansas, but managed to blew out the Jayhawks. The Sooners did what they needed to do to say the least. |
| LSU Tigers | Is it more impressive to blow out Utah State at home or Tennessee away (while struggling at first)? Probably the former. Georgia and LSU are still super close imo. I think the Texas win is looking better as well. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Struggled against Tennessee at first but then looked like the Georgia we expect later on. Bulldogs did the expected |
| Florida Gators | Florida's win against Auburn is convincing enough to look right outside the Top 4 along with teams seeking in. However, SoS is a big concern and the teams above in this tier have a better "Wow" win. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Impressive win over Purdue, and pretty much blew out their opponents thus far. The match at Iowa will be interesting and have big implications. No big win yet though, it should be Iowa. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | Manhandled Kent State, but that is not enough for competition in the Top 10 to move up.  |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | The win at Georgia was super close, and Notre Dame blew BGSU out of the water. Teams around here lacked a bit imo as well. |
| Texas Longhorns | Same case as ND but had a very convincing win at WVU. However, the loss at LSU at home is what decided the Longhorns to be below the Fighting Irish. |
| Auburn Tigers | I'm not going to punish Auburn too hard for losing at Florida (a very tough game), but the competition for being top 10 is fierce. I don't think a recent loss helps unless if it's in the top 4. |
| Boise State Broncos | This is a good cut off between teams looking in and notable teams this season. BSU also shoud've blew out UNLV to a higher extent. |
| Oregon Ducks | Defensive, close win against Cal at home. Pretty underwhelming for looking into top 10 imo. |
| Wake Forest Demon Deacons | Bye |
| Memphis Tigers | Blew out ULM at their place, but Memphis will need more going into the American to override Boise St. |
| Virginia Cavaliers | Bye |
| Utah Utes | Bye |
| Michigan Wolverines | Good win against Iowa, although it was only amazing on defense. Offense needs work. We'll see in two weeks, but until then Michigan will stick around here. |
| Iowa Hawkeyes | Same case with Auburn, as I don't want to punish them too hard. Also, big game against Penn State. |
| Baylor Bears | Honestly...the same case as Minnesota but the win against Kansas State was impressive. |
| Minnesota Golden Gophers | Blew out Illinois. Yay? Should still be recognized for their record though. SoS need moar!!! |
| Appalachian State Mountaineers | Bye |
| SMU Mustangs | Struggled to win against Tulsa at home (although an incredible comeback). I'll need a good win against Temple for them to move on up in this list. |
| Cincinnati Bearcats | Cincinnati looked incredible against UCF. But I think the score should've been higher to be ranked higher. Wouldn't be surprised if Cincy loses later on (it's very tough for the conference this year). We'll see how things turn out. |
